registration problem

Hi everyone,

I just installed BearShare 6 & when it goes to register I just get the
Registrayion pop-up withe msg "Registration is starting - Please wait".

I have been waiting as long as 20 min. with no changes.
The firewall (ZoneAlarm) has been configured to allow access.

I have reinstalled the software, turned off the firewall and it just
stares at me. I have sarched Google & no one seems to have ever had
this problem. Of course the BearShare website is no help.

Anybody have a suggestion??

Maybe their registration web site is down again. No matter. You would be
much better off with the original BearShare anyway. It is still so much better.

See here for a download, and don't forget the companion program, BearStart:
Sticky: BearShare has been sabotaged.

OK, I don't believe this. The software was loaded under my Windows account, but I can't create a Bearshare user account. My Pops logged on under his Windows account & it had an icon on his desktop for Bearshare. He opened Bearshare & it imediately went to the Registration screen. He created me a Bearshare user account & it works great!!

The software now works, but only for his Windows account. When I log on & go to Bearshare, it still tells me I have to sign-in & create a Bearshare user account.

He then created a second account for himself, but it still won't let me get into Bearshare under my Windows account. I still just get the
Registration pop-up with msg "Registration is starting - Please wait".

He checked our Windows user accounts & we are both setup as Computer Administrators.

I don't want to log onto Windows as him, everytime I want to use Bearshare!! Again, any suggestions??

Try the version I linked to. It doesn't need registration. In fact, since both are
completely different programs (BearShare v6 is actually iMesh in disguise) you
could run both at the same time without conflicts.

Aaron,

Thanks for your replys...

Actually we tried to instal 5.2 first (based on reading about the spyware etc. in 6.1), but kept getting a windows popup "BearShare has encountered a problem and needs to close".

After reading your last reply we tried to install 5.2 along with 6.1 & still encounter the error.

Are you suggesting that we remove both & install 5.1 ???
Is that the version you suggested to Sticky?

If 5.2 consistenly fails, then uninstall ZoneAlarm. That thing has never been
able to keep up top BearShare, even when it's in leaf mode.

5.1 (in the Sticky thread) is also much better than 5.2 because it's a beta and
was compiled to be much more powerful than the regular versions.
