Virus/Spyware alert I just got hit for the first time on P2P! Thought I'd pass along the learning: 1.) ID: The virus is w32.fontra. According to Symantec, " ... Fontra is a virus that infects executable files located in peer-to-peer shared folders. ..." 2.) Method: It was attached to a zip file. I did not even open it. I downloaded a .mp3.zip - that looked suspiciously small. As soon as the download completed, it went off. 3.) Excorcism: Most good antivirus/antispyware programs will detect - but they may not all delete or quarentine. I've run a full system Norton scan and apparently have taken care of it. Be careful out there. |
xarlos Thanks for the info but you may want to adopt a policy of leaving zipped files on the P2P network alone. Personally I don't touch zip, exe, rar or any other type of program/app file. UK Bob |
Roger that Generally my policy as well. I was just intrigued by the naming convention used. |
Hi there, I've gotta agree, leave zips, exe's etc. well alone on P2P. Lesson learnt I guess, pity their out there though, just put there to aggravate the hell out of us all! |
