Bearshare

Excuse my ignorance, but what is it and what is it for?

Peerless January 18th, 2008 08:44 AM

its for sharing gummi bears!

itsbkn January 18th, 2008 04:43 PM

Very funny! I thought this was a serious forum. I chose poorly.

Peerless January 18th, 2008 05:04 PM

the only thing serious here is your attitude...if you can't take the time to do a little research on the most superior gnutella client then you are the one at fault d00d

itsbkn January 19th, 2008 06:06 AM

Bearshare

You are absolutely right about my attitude. I am a but too serious but part of this comes from ignorance and trying to catch up all the time.
I should do some personal research not just with "Bearshare" but other programs as well. I admit I'm a bit gun shy downloading anything from the internet because of all the warnings about viruses' that seem to be rampant in the cyberworld.
On another note; what makes Bearshare so special? And do I really want to know what "d00d" means?
Thanks for the well deserved kick in the behind. I deserved it.

Peerless January 19th, 2008 08:18 AM

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...sabotaged.html

download the expired beta and the BearStart 'hack' that Aaron links to in the first post, and read the whole thread for hints on how to configure the program then give it a spin..I'm sure you will find that it blows the socks off of LW..

bgdn January 20th, 2008 07:19 AM

Question in a world of blue

I love BearShare, but I'm wondering !? how long this will still works, the expired beta ..really ! Just asking ? Thanks :rolleyes_2:

Peerless January 20th, 2008 09:25 AM

it will work as long as there are people using the gnutella network...the network is comprised of everyone's computers, its as simple as that...

bgdn; Peerless is a wealth of information vault and has helped me several times. I wouldn't worry about the language barrier; somebody here will interpret what you need for help.
Good luck

bgdn hi!
At least with your language barrier you have a legitimate excuse for not knowing all the jargon and abbreviations. I don't, I'm just new here. I'm new period! I do my best to learn what I can but it's like learning a new language. Most folks will be patient, kind, and helpful. To them I am most greatful.
So much to learn, so little time.

All the best;
itsbrkn

Hey ! So am I and so do I !!!
Well, not from, as in born here, but here for more years than I want to think about !

There are not that many islands near Europe... Wonder where yours is ?

BearShare really is great... There is still nothing else out there that comes close to it
(Sorry, Phex !)

Many things, but some of the important ones are:

It was really and truly developed by a mix of pros and serious users meeting both privately and within BearShare Labs which was available to all in the old BearShare Forums.

It was always designed to be functional and screw the pretty stuff... Hence there was never any 'skinning' nonsense.

It was and still is the only client that actually respected the intelligence of the user.
The GUI is clean and simple with as much info as you wished to see.

It is 'friendly' within Gnutella Network.

...er, and there was Vinnie !

Aaron can give a very succinct run down on the technical aspects that set BearShare apart from the others.

And do I really want to know what "d00d" means?
Don't panic !

It is simply an affectionate nickname used in the Texas insurance business.

hello everyone this is my first post hope you guys can help ? having trouble with bearshare connecting and also bitlord they both stopped working at the same time 3 days ago have tried reinstalling bearshare and bitlord and a newer version of bearshare 5.2.5 and the connect file posted by arron walkerhouse but wasn't sure where to put the file as could't find "/bearshare test/db in the file only "bearshare/db" i'm on tiscali isp in good old england uk please help missing bearshare lots.......

AaronWalkhouse February 24th, 2008 02:02 AM

Tiscali is probably blocking it. I don't know which method they're using, so maybe if you change
your port number and reboot the modem it might start working again.

The connection cache file go in the /db/ folder. It's the same for any version of BearShare.

ruski February 24th, 2008 03:40 PM

hi aaron would they or can they block all these types of connection or is there a way around it at the moment when i try and connect in the console this is what i am getting. BearShare host cache connection failed

Enable the Hosts view and watch to see if any hosts are connecting.

bearshare

yes loads of ip addresses with :6348 after them scrolling down greyed out saying connecting then handshake then they timeout. any ideas cheers ruski..

AaronWalkhouse February 25th, 2008 03:12 PM

None stay? You're definitely being blocked then, if handshakes start but never complete.
