you all know how easy it is to trojan a .dll file?

this is why I deleted a link to it...but hey, if you want to trust some other place, be my guest...I wouldn't...

Bearshare lite 5.2.5. was suggested through 'read this' link above. Now when i go open it the user account control asks me first if i will allow the 'unidentified program' to run, i allow but as said it wont connect to network.
thought i had it but obviously not..

well, every once in a while I get that message....but that's only been when my system was clogged down with other activities or needed defragmentation....so I would suggest doing a defrag on your machine (should be done monthly at least)...

again, I would NOT trust some site to have the appropriate .dll file (at least not having had a trojan added in)....ever stop to think that perhaps some malicious file is being spread which deletes the driver, which forces you to search and find a replacement (which is being provided by the dillholes who made the malicious software)????

as far as connecting...just let it keep trying...eventually you will get connected to a host...read the thread I linked to in its entirety and you will get some good tips on how to set up and run the expired beta....and remember, always use PeerGuardian2 when using any p2p program....

Here is how to fix the problem with the missing BSidle.DLL file.

Go to a search engine and search BSidle.dll

Download the driver from one of the search engine results.

Save the downloaded dll file to your desktop, then move it to Program Files/Bearshare.

Bearshare should now open.

angel how did you get past the dll error?

peerless - i am trying to tell you that about 8 months ago i was running the version of bearshare provided by your link in this thread as well as the bearshare has been sabotoged thread. it was working fine until a couple days ago and that error about the file "bsidle.dll" came up and since then i cannot use bearshare. i ran a search through my c drive for the "bsidle.dll" file and there were no results. you don't know how this could have happened? I deleted the version provided on the sabotoged thread and re-installed it and it still won't work. please help if you can.

Thank you so much peerless. I used your link and disabled a certain part of my MacAfee and it worked. It was a little tricky at first but it worked.
My last question is about preventing viruses while the part of MacAfee is disabled. Are there any files I should not download while I'm searching through bearshare? I don't want to get a virus, but you obviously need to have that one part disabled from MacAfee. Any advice on that? Also when I re-installed bearshare again and it finally worked I was prompted to block files with certain codes. Are there any that I should have blocked?

the above poster gives wise advice re:bitzi...

you haven't said (or I missed it) what part of McAfee is disabled....

if you are simply allowing certain actions by BearShare and BS only, then that is fine..one has to do the same with any firewall to allow traffic with a p2p program...if you are referring to the .dll file in specific, you should be able to put that file on the accepted list for your Anti Virus

I think I went under computers and files (in MacAfee) and disabled the first option. Im not sure exactly which option it was, I can't tell because I'm on my work computer now and it is a different version of MacAfee here.

Every time I tried to unzip the file you gave me it wouldn't work because MacAfee kept quarantining the dll file. So i disabled (the section stated above) and restored the dll file and I was finally able to use my bearshare.

Do you know how to move the dll file into the list of accepted files?

Thanks again.
