Looking for a problem

Hi everyone...my name is Buck...Buck Mckenzie......and I have an Internet problem.

Just joking. I woul like to know if anybody has had a problem with their pc's freezing when using Bearshare. I have had Bearshare only for a while and I think it is causing the problem. It might be AudioGalaxy as well but who knows....?

I would appreciate if somebody could give me some sollutions or shed some light on it.

Thanks,
Buck

Best place to try is http://www.bearshare.net/forum/

Try to be a bit more specific 'bout your problems, also mention operating system, cpu, ram, shoe size, living with parents, dogs name,etc...

buckmckenzie March 7th, 2002 05:55 AM

Ok....My pc has got Windows 95, 900 Mhz processor chip, 40 gig HDD and 256 MB DIM RAM.
My problem is that my pc freeze's when I use the Internet. I am suspecting Bearshare might cause the problem. I have uninstalled it in the meantime and it looks like the problem have stopped, but I would like to use Bearshare again.

Cheers,
Buck

Perhaps you need a Win sock update:

Only an idea!

Sorry Morgwen,

I've actually got Windows 98. Have been looking on the Windows website for a win sock update but can't seem to find it. Do you know where I can look which version I've got and where I can get the latest one?

Thanks for your unselfish help.

Go there and download the winsock2 file from Microsoft.
But most likly you dont need the new winsock.
Try lowering your max host count a little.

After reading your post again... audiogalaxy requires the installation of Gator (this software is spyware!) - bearshare also contains spyware but here is the installation optional!

Uninstall audiogalaxy (and never re-install it!) and clean your harddisc with ad-aware!

http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0...0-7302674.html

This third party software may also cause this problem!

Wrong

The currently shipping version of BearShare does NOT contain spyware.

Adware would be more accurate.

Anyway guys,

Thanks for all the advice and help but I can't seem to find the problem. I guess I'll have to take my pc back to the guy I bought it from....luckily it's still under guarentee so he'll have to fix it. Just thought I can solve the problem myself.

Thanks,
Buck

The whole world say it "IS" spyware, you are the only one who say it is not...

So now we should trust you? Why? Because you want to earn more money?

The people should install ad-aware and they will see it is marked as spyware - and there is a good reason for this Mr. Falco!

Ok people...thie is not where my thread is supposed to go and what this forum is supposed to be used for....BUT,

I think it is a sly way of getting people to use the programmes but as long as the spy/adware gets uninstalled when one uninstalls the whole programme, then I don't have a problem with it.

So.....creators of software.....make it uninstallable!!Most people might actually use it then.

Cheers

Uninstallable???

Why should the people use such a client when "FREE" clients are out there?

Ad-aware removes adware as well as spyware. It makes no distinction between adware and spyware.

The software bundled with BearShare is adware. None of the opt-out software components that are included with our application report the users activities to a remote server.

If you have the nerve to make these accusations, then why don't you tell us exactly which of our opt-out bundled components is a "spyware" application and tell us what it is spying on and where it is sending it to?

You will be unable to do so - none of the opt out components are of the spyware variety.

Unlike companies like KaZaA or AudioGalaxy, we do not exploit our users to the fullest extent by bundling all sorts of crap with our product.

A lot of effort has gone into making sure that the advertising components that support our product and its development are from reputable companies and do not do anything underhanded (like most spyware programs do).

Your negative comments and lack of respect undermine our efforts and do not do service to Gnutella or its contributors.

Thank you for your understanding in this regard.

They havent contacted me personall because of information they have gather from me. many people have sniffed packets and found nothing. So untill it is provin that they are spying on me i will call it ad-ware :Þ
