Default Video file contents missing

Hello...first post.
I've searched as much as i could for this issue (to no avail) so excuse me if this post is a duplicate or inappropriate.
A few video files on my system that have been viewed and verified are strangely not there anymore. lemme explain further-
The title of the movie is in my shared folder however it says it doesn't contain any kb's. Once again...i've watched these files before so I know data was once there.
The only thing I've done that (I think) could have affected the file would be a clean-up and defrag of my hard drive. Which leads to the question...why only a few video files and not all?
btw...i'm running a windows xp machine
Thanks in advance.

(sorry I don't have a cool saying or avatar here)

It's most likely a disk problem. Run a disk error check and check the box marked
"Automatically fix file system errors". It will ask you to reboot and then it will do the check
instead of starting Windows. After that it will start Windows and you will either have the
files back or not, but at least you won't lose any more of them.

Thanks! While I don't anticipate being a huge contributor here since I usually don't have problems and don't know enough to confidently help anyone else...I did upload a custom avatar. btw...it's actually me.
Thanks again for being attentive.

Well, I tried what you suggested...thanks for that. However, I still have the problem...and what's even more weird is if I change my folder view to thumbnail...there's still a thumbnail there with the details stating 0kbs in the file.
While this may not be a bearshare issue it's still rather strange.
Any other suggestions?

If the data is gone, there's no more tricks to try.
Your quickest recovery mode is download them again.

Probably doubtful it would help in this scenario, but a possibility is you use a file recovery utility: File Recovery after deletion (click on link). Recuva sounds like a good one to try.

Well, I can't figure out what happened. or why. Maybe I "fat fingered" something and it just disappeared. i dunno. But...I did download that little utility (Recuva) and I'm impressed. Although it didn't find the files I was looking for, it seems rather impressive for it's size. It found over 9000 files that have been deleted or overwritten, which is good and bad. The good is...it could have easily been the files I was looking for. The bad is...the results also included all the pictures on my friends myspace pages that i've visited and were deleted from my temp internet folders after firefox is closed. Believe me, when i saw these random pics, i was wonder WTF. Anyway...I appreciate everyone who may have given my problem any thought.
