Date and Time problems running BearShare. Please help! Hi, I hope this is in the right place. I was informed by a very nice person the other day that I had the WRONG Bearshare software, and that I needed to get the Gnutella version. I did, and now every time I open the program, it adjusts the time and date to my computer to sometime on 1/7/2005. When that happens, none of my pages will open in any of my browsers. Then to get it working again, I have to reboot the entire computer and then the time will allow me to readjust it back to the present. Can someone please help me get past this annoying glitch? Thanks in advance! P.S. BTW, I downloaded the Bear Share 5 - Share Ware version he sent me to at this URL: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...sabotaged.html So that is not the problem. |

The time change should only apply for a second or two, then revert back. This happens with all installers of the BearShare 5.1 beta version because it was originally programmed to stop functioning by a certain date in 2005, but the one created by File_Girl generally causes the system less issues. Was the archive called BSTESTINSTALLER 5.1.0.25c.rar or BSTESTINSTALLER 5.1.0b25? If not, you can get it here. Do a clean install. If you are using Windows 7, you should right-click the installer and choose Run as Administrator. Perhaps if you do this, it will solve your problem. |

I haven't run the BS Beta for ages. But I just installed File_Girl's version & after a while (maybe 5 mins or so during which BS was adding files to my shared Library) found that I had an error from iTunes saying that time & date weren't set correctly. That's never happened before when running the BS Beta. Never had a problem with time & date. When I checked in Windows CP (XP) after maybe 10 minutes, the date was still set to 2005. I've just used RevoUninstaller to remove BS & rebooted, so far all is back to normal. |

I PM'd File_Girl72 earlier, hopefully she will have an idea what the problem is. On XP mine took a little longer to turn back than usual (over a minute), but the clock did turn back to today's date. Likewise on Windows 7. But Windows on this machine runs quite slow since it's a mac. Windows 2000 was much faster. |

Hey Lord, Yeah, I clean installed, and it never changed back. Date won't let you change if it stays that way for a while. If you change it while you go, it is okay, but it needs constant monitoring. If you wait, you have to reboot, then you can go in and change your time back to the correct time. Definitely needs a little work over. I do have Windows 7. I will try and run it as XP and see how it goes. EDIT: It is already running in XP SP 3. Should I change it to run in XP SP 2? |

BS was running fine on my last install of XP SP3 fully updated...that was about a month ago...before I fried 4 HDDs and lost all that data...I would assume it will work again once I get around to installing it on this machine running the same setup... every blue moon the date has gotten stuck on me, but that has been very rare...

But yes, do both, run BearShare in Administrative mode. You could also try the Windows XP mode. I know XP mode fixed the problem for one Windows 7 user over a year ago. |
