Thanks for your information. Unfortunately, I am a neophyte with this stuff and get lost quite easily. I found several Ffmpeg references on the Internet but can't really understand which to use or, actually, how to install them on my computer. |

converting wav to mp3 is fine , but please, if your working with real SONGS do not convert an mp3 back to a wav file ,or if you must, DONT SHARE it because mp3 sounds like crap IMO , wav on the othor hand is whats called lossless audio, that is it never loses sound qualety when you rip a song from a cd in wav format, it sound EXACTLEY like the origanal cd. mp3 on the other hand loses a lot of sound qualety to get it down to 6mb(even at 320kbps). if you convert an mp3 to a wav and then share it your making it verry difficult for people (me) who want pefect wav files and perfect sound qualety because we then have to "hunt" for the wavs that were ripped from the origanal cd amung all the crap that sounds horribul that was made from mp3s. converting mp3 to wav is like converting a tape to dvd, you get the same sh!tty VHS picture qualety on the dvd wich could support much better picture qualety than VHS. |

EVERYTHING... I mean, everything that you can possibly need for music file format conversions is available from another SourceForge developed application... It has been carefully hidden in my sig for about 2 years or so... Click on CDex 1.51 in my sig below... There are also numerous posts on the few tips re: D/Ling and installing CDex 1.51 in various posts here in the Tips & Tricks Forum... Have a search for CDex... Only thing you need to take care with is to properly... I mean PROPERLY setup the configurations for WHERE and HOW you want the resultant files to be saved and how they will be 'named'... And, what 'quality' you wish for your conversions, depending on what file type you desire... The HELP files are very good... See also, http://www.monkeysaudio.com/ (Which is also deeply hidden in my sig !!!) LOL It is not difficult and only needs some thinking and careful reading to understand exactly how to save your converted stuff the way you want it to be...

Furthermore, the above mentioned lossless format can only be used on Windos. The proper lossless audio format is FLAC: http://flac.sourceforge.net/ It's open source, free and usable on pretty much any known platform. It's also been adopted by the OGG project as lossless audio format. There are even a few hardware players that support it. However, you only save about 50% by any of the known lossless audio formats. Uncompressed PCM audio (like in WAV files but also on CDs and DVDs) has been around for decades and it's unlikely that it'll ever become unusable as it's so simple and well-known. Lossless audio compression is only really useful if you cannot afford the additional diskspace or for remote transfers to save half the time. I wouldn't use it to archive music in full quality - even though FLAC is open source and free. |

any careful read of the text and structure of my reply post would indicate that the reference to .ape format was an add-on that may be of interest to the user... Your reply is of no merit whatsoever and you are now officially on the joint peerless/ursula 'azzole' list... Kongratchewlashuns, Cheery-bye |

i like wavs beacause there arcive qualety and i can allways convert the master wav to wichever format i like , mp3 ,flac etc. and your wrong , the sound on dvds is highley compressed and therefor sonds not much better than a 192k mp3. cds are raw pcm un compressed. he was on the azzhole list befor he was born. |
