Unhappy LimeWire Library

I'm new - so sorry if this is posted in the wrong location or if my question seems silly to you experts out there.

I deleted songs from my LimeWire Library since I had them stored on my iTunes. Ok, so now, when I go to iTunes and try to play these songs, it tells me the song can not be found.

As you can see, I'm the furthest thing from a computer whiz. My guess is that deleting songs from my LimeWire Library made them unable to be played in my iTunes program. But if they were already stored in iTunes, why would that occur?

Anyway, does this mean, that now I have to re-download all the songs all over again since I'm getting the message that the songs can't be found? I didn't delete the songs from iTunes and the titles are still there. But when I click on them to play, I keep getting the message that they can't be found.

Help!

Which version of Limewire are you using? The latest model, for mac at any rate thankfully does not afaik allow this mistake. It sounds like you have an older model and yes I'm afraid this option deletes files from iTunes and your hard drive. If you have windows xp I believe it is possible to retrieve the files and a file recovery progrmme can be used which MIGHT work. It does depend how long ago this happenned. The titles will remain in iTunes beside an explanation mark meaning that the files cannot be found. This is bad luck and I would like some one to confirm if this can still happen with the lates windows models of LW or not. Let us know yu need more information

I have a feeling that you'll have to re-download your songs again. I did that before and that's what I had to do. Sorry!

Yes, that's correct. There is an exclamation point next to each song. (sigh) I had a feeling I would have to re-download all the songs. My computer was also running slow and I have DSL so I did a thorough cleaning & defrag. so I guess its gone.

I deleted them from my LimeWire library because I thought it might make my pc run faster.

waaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Normally videos and movies slow down your computer. Not songs.

OK if you havent emptied the recycal bin yet you might be able to just resore the songs....if LW simpley deleted them without puting them in the recycal bin or you emptied the bin allredy you MAY be able to get some of them back....

STOP USEING THE COMPUTER IF POSSIBLE! or atlest dont DL or create any new files.

when you deldet a file or emti the bin the file isent actualy deleted...the files are still on your disk but theyr space is open to being recorded over so you can no longer see them, but theyr still there. as long as you dont DL or use the computer the files wont be written over and you can get them back with specail programs (the onley ones i know of have to be cracked so i cant say the names) .

but if you defraggged and have been using the computer i dont know , it may be too late....

the reson your songs dissapered is because the songs in itunes were actualey links or shortcust to the songs and not the actual files, so when you deleted the songs from your library in LW , LW deleted the actual files.

to avoid this problem , dont use the library in LW at all. the actulal folder where LW puts your songs is in C:\documents and settings\owner (or your name or whatever your user account is called)\ shared . in that folder you will find all your songs , the actual files and not links. make a shortcut to this folder on your desktop. i do this and i find an organized folder MUCH better than the LW library. from that folder you can delete any file and it will dissapere from the LW library and from itunes, its allsow much EZer to find files youv just DLed and burn CDs etc this way insted of fu(king with the LW library.

creating backups of anything you dont want destroyed on zip disk , CD-R , DVD , a second harddrive , tape ,JAZ ,REV or whatever is allsow a good idia .
