Hi madmum

Turn your computer off and then on and see what happens please keep a pen and paper handy and write down any systems that run when you restart your computer some systems still run until you restart your computer

GO LUCK
wizliz

p.s. if that doesn't work I might have another idea.

try renaming hijackthis.exe to something different eg hjt123.exe

if that doesnt work, what is the error message it gives you?

can you get a screenshot?

Norbie, I don't know how to get a screen shot. The error message is:-

Windows cannot open this file

File hjt123.exe

To open this file, windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs on your computer.

What do you want to do

*Use the web service to find the appropriate program
*select program from a list.

When you choose the web one ity comes up with CKNOW.COM

Wizliz

I tried the search thing and it comes up with 3 different things but I don't realy understand what you mean by a funny shape item. Sorry

Try following these instructions:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/exefile.htm

Then if that fixes it, post a Hijackthis log on my site

Hi, it is my pc I am having problems with. I tried the command thing as per norbies instructions. I can't do that either, when I try it, it says:-

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

C:/WINDOWS/system32/command.com
C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.
Choose 'Close' to terminate the application

There is a bit at the bottom of the page that says if that doesn't work, try something else but I don't realy understand where I need to type it.

1. Click Start, click Run, type c:\windows\repair, and then click OK.
2. Right-click autoexec.nt, and then click Copy.
3. Click Start, click Run, type c:\windows\system32, and then click OK.
4. Right-click anywhere in that folder, and then click Paste.
5. Right-click the Autoexect.nt file that you just copied, and then click Properties.
6. Click to select Read-Only, and then click OK.
7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 to copy the Config.nt file as well.
