That's what I was suggesting. That these/this person has selected lots of your shared files simultaneously (such as using the SHIFT key) to downld. What you see in the monitor window is them downlding the hashtree somewhat quickly. But they haven't downlded the actual file. See the links in my link about Hashtree & you'll get a feel of what I mean (click the underlined word link in my previous post to find links to finding out about hashtree.) This is just one possibillity. On the other hand, perhaps they have made a quick dash to downld your files very quickly such as if they have a T1 connection & you have a high bandwidth on offer for uplds. I'm neither a T1 or T3 connection so I can only surmise.

I'm pretty sure it was not that... No it was definitely 5 files being D/ld simultaneously, and I watched for some time. I then checked my preferences and they were set do 1 upload per person and I came back and the downloading was continuing. The uploading of the hash tree (which I must admit I thought was some pot smoker's song being uploaded the first time I saw it ) only takes a short time and is labeled as such in the monitor window.

This only happened to me once and I had totally forgotten about it until now.

btw "And I don't think we have really answered his question "Does anyone know how they do this?"" was originally my comment .. and while the Hash tree might be a possiblity, I like Marc remain curious. It looks as if he's pinched my sig, but I don't think he meant to

Default Update on this issue

I want to thank each and every one of you for the help and suggestions.

After reading the posts, I went to LW and reset the preferences to default. Again, I'm using LWPro 4.8.1 and after that, I reset the file sharing back to the ones I'd had before.

Ready for this? It was like they were waiting on me. I had six IMMEDIATE I.P.'s doing it to me. They weren't the same I.P.'s the instances varied as in one of them was taking 5 files although I set it to one (1) another was doing it one file at a time with such speed it wasn't possible to get the I.P. address. In and gone the whole thing took less than 30 seconds.

By the way, I'm on DSL if that helps/hinders.

Again, thanx

Marc001

Just send me to nooB asylum and lock me up!

In Options or preferences > uploads > basic >Clear uploads > Uncheck the box "Automatically Clear Completed Updates"

Right click on column bar in monitor window and select extra> extended tool tips

These two things will help you see what's going on a bit better. If you hover over dowupload results you will see time taken and speed for instance, but ........ I cannot help thinking that you are a marced man

Well I tried everything and then shut it down. I'll keep it off for an hour or so and then start it back up.

I noticed that my downloads seem to be going faster and after I reset the default, I didn't see as many I.P.'s whipping through. I'll let you know what happens if anything.

Thanx

Auto-clearing of uplds & downlds for mac osx users is supposed to help reduce VM usage. Whilst it's very handy to have around, mac osx users who have their computers turned on for many days with LW running may prefer to keep VM & RAM usage to a minimum particularly if they're still using Java 1.4.2 Closing windows that don't need to be open at the time also helps to reduce this. Also cleaning of very old search results. But I am speaking specifically re: osx with Java 1.4.2 & AFAIK. Earlier version Beta testing & advice brought out these suggestions. If I can struggle with RAM & VM with 1.5 GB RAM & 2 x 120 GB internal drives.

This is purely side advice as it doesn't actually have any direct influence on your original question & answer.
