Download speeds

I hope you'll all forgive me if I bore you with a basic question, but I'm somewhat computer-illiterate.
What I'd be grateful for someone to tell me is: What is the ranking in terms of speed for "Cable/DSL", "T1", "T3 or higher" ?
I think I'm clued up enough to understand that "modem" is the slowest speed.
