Yes iTunes can rip to mp3 directly if you choose. The better method is to rip to wav on your hdd, then rip to mp3. You can do that within iTunes but it means mucking around with later deleting your wav files. Not so difficult if well practiced. Just temporarily arrange files by format in iTunes so all the wavs are in the one group. Can be done very quickly!

Exact Audio Copy (EAC) is the dog's bollocks when it comes to ripping.

Good advice on it's configuration and use can be found here:-

But to get back on topic, dBpowerAMP is very good at audio file format conversion:-

A free version can still be found at- http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/200...IA.php#0898-PW

Extra codecs (over and above those included by default) can be obtained from Codec Central- http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm

But, as stated above, wma to mp3 is a bad idea.

Well Garbagegan2 wants to stick with iTunes it seems.

Use EAC and LAME myself, so I totally agree with you dogbreath

And just to really make it sink in for anyone reading through this thread

Never ever share anything that has been converted from a lossy codec to another lossy codec

Lossless to mp3 or wma or whatever is the only way.

And BTW make it 320 kbps

And changing the id3-tag to 320 does not make it 320

Any audio editing and converting software will be of use. Suggests to try FlexiMusic Wave Editor. Directly can't read WMA file in FlexiMusic Wave Editor, so play and record the Wma file in the software and then using the "Save As" command, convert and save the Wma file as Mp3 format. To save the file as Mp3, need to install a separate command line Mp3 encoder/ decoder. Lame win 32 will be of use.
