![]() This week marks the anniversary of the day, 40 years ago, that the village of Aberfan, not far from Cardiff in South Wales UK was devastated by the collapse of a coal mine waste tip, one of many that were perched high above the village. 116 children, 5 Teachers and 24 others died. I have always been saddened by this tragedy, in which half the children in the school died, and were it not for the lack of care by the Coal Board, the whole thing would never have happened. But it is only recently, that I have visited the village and the memorial garden, which now shows little outward sign of events 40 years ago. It is so sad to think of the lives wasted, half a generation wiped away in a few minutes......
