Try it. QuickTime .mov is such a vague term because it still might be any number of formats. It could be mpeg 4, or non-compressed, or ... depending upon the codec used to convert the file. I just tried one with VLC & it played. But it was encoded with mpeg 4.

Not easy to know. Sometimes VLC or QT player will show you the info. Get information for that file once it's opened. QT is menu bar, Window menu, Get movie info.
VLC is window, information.

Question Vlc

Have noticed that vlc doesn't like to play 'Previews' is it just me, do I have the settings wrong?? I know it doesnt like foreign languages it seems, so have to 'Rename' files so that it will play them, interested in comments on the 'Preview' thing??
Any ideas LOTR?

That seems to only apply to some windows users that VLC won't preview. So all I can suggest is you go to the LW Library window, select incomplete folder, select the file you're downloading & press Launch. This will work. It also stops LW creating a preview file which it stores in your incomplete folder. Another way is to select incomplete folder, press Explore button, arrange by date modified, find your file near top of list & double-click.

I personally prefer doing these techniques as I don't like LW creating preview files & then me having to delete them later from the incomplete folder.

Default Vlc-Previews

Thanks Lotr for advice i.e. launch, Iv'e been deleting preview files til now, will try launch, thankyou. any advice on my windows FWall, got router with FWall, then deleted Zone Alarm(Which I miss ) and enabled windows FWall(ZAlarm was interferring with file sharing, and i didnt need 3 FWalls!!) but windows FWall keeps turning itself off on reboot, not everytime but most, Very odd.( reason for windowsFWall is told to have one as safety net) any ideas? thought i'd try reinstalling ZAlarm and not using windows FWall, but ZAlarm interferres too much with settings.so re-enabled windows and again got rid of ZAlarm.Phew, so intermittent windows FWall is the least worst problem, did that make any sense?? I'm starting to lose it after router nightmare !!
Thanks again. newbee2
PS computer is as far as I can tell, free of viruses etc...

On micro$oft's site they did recommend against using more than one software firewall at one time. They have removed or moved that reference. But almost all FW companies say the same thing. Because it can result in less security not more. They can clash when run together.

Yes I agree, router has integral FWall, two people who are far more ''up to speed'' than me(NOT HARD) I might add! recommended that it would be a good idea to re-enable windows FWall,(I also miss ZAlarm because I can deny some windows prog. like MPlayer updates, and access to net) I admit to being a little scared of just relying on router FWall, Do you advise not using windows FWall?
Many thanks for answer so far,
newbee2
