Default source for 'directions' ? - Like mapquest but what's better ?

hi guys, does anyone know of a good source for directions? mapquest is almost always, not wrong, but confusing. i usually get lost and have to stop and ask for directions, and every person i meet tells me the same thing, their (mapquest that is) directions "stink".
