location traced

hey guys, sorry tat tis isnt related to limewire, but i need to ask sumthing important...

can my location be found out if i have a dynamic IP address? lets say i visited facebook and posted there .. can my location be found out by a large company who ask facebook my IP address and stuff a few days after i posted?

if so, how can i overcome this problem?

Depends on what you posted. If you posted something that Facebook deems illegal, then I'm sure they have no problem handing over your IP. Then it's up to whether your ISP thinks it's bad as well.

oh ok.. is there n e way to overcome this? how about if i change my modem?

Every location you go to on the internet leaves 'footprints' of your ip address. Your ISP will have some kind of record also of which ip addresses you have been assigned over a period even if using a dynamic ip address. Proxies may assist a little, but still not fool proof. :)

so what can i do now?

simpleboy November 16th, 2008 02:28 PM

the milliondollar question..

can somebody identify YOU (personally, as in name , age and stuff) through ur IP address (identify ur house)?

please reply soon!

simpleboy November 16th, 2008 03:35 PM

furthermore... how can u change ur internet hostname so that people can't trace ur IP to u? is this possible? and will this affect my computer? what if i just buy a different internet service provider, say a new pack, will it change my host name? ur replies r eagerly awaited! thnx

Yes, your ISP can identify you and even if you change your ISP, your old ISP will still have you on record. When you post somewhere, be it here or on Facebook, your post will be timestamped.

So your ISP will have the info that e.g. IP: 123.123.123.123 was being used by subscription 123456, which is being paid for by name, address etc.

simpleboy November 16th, 2008 09:30 PM

is it possible to change the subscription part? and can they directly link it to ME if a family member is paying for the subscription and not me?

Sleepless November 17th, 2008 10:07 AM

No and no, but they can indirectly (and later directly) link it to you.

If you really think I'm gonna help you post illegal things on the net, then you are sadly mistaken.
