Virgin plans deep packet inspection Dear Forum Members Those of you who live in the UK and have Virgin as your ISP should read the following story, which is another step in Virgin's anti-P2P campaign. Virgin Media plans to use CView If Virgin is allowed to get away with deploying this "deep packet inspection" software then the floodgates will be open to other ISPs the world over, pressured by their respective governments, to install also install this software. You know people, we are all slowly but surely moving towards a "Chinese style" control of the Internet. UK Bob |
The title for this thread resembles a poorly-translated porn title. A related article available through the above link, tells of letters mailed to thousands of people, in which payment is demanded for downloading copyrighted porn. The article further states that many recipients deny having downloaded anything, and that only 10% of illegally-shared content is porn. When accused of unpopular activities, many innocents are reluctant to complain loudly. It is virtually impossible to prove one did not download porn or authorize others to do so. And it is not a subject you want your relatives, co-workers or neighbors discussing. |
Blackhorse 70V You know, I did not spot that about the title but, in a lighthearted way, you're right. However, the serious part of your post points out the way big companies assume "god-like" powers against the ordinary customer. Because unless you, the customer, have the technical expertise (or can pay for the expertise), to prove them wrong you are left with taking your custom elsewhere. I am glad I have left Virgin because their arrogance towards their paying customers seem to have no limits. UK Bob PS. Why do companies, once they reach a certain size, treat their paying customers like cr@p? PPS. Just found the article you were posting about: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8481790.stm |
