President Obama Speaks on The American Jobs Act

:type:
The President thanked the officials on the call for their ongoing support, as well as their input and ideas that helped shape the American Jobs Act through listening sessions, calls and meetings over the past month. The President then laid out his policy ideas to help create more jobs immediately, including proposals to:
  • Provide $50 billion in immediate investments for highways, transit, rail and aviation;
  • Provide $10 billion to create a National Infrastructure Bank;
  • Invest $35 billion to prevent layoffs of up to 280,000 teachers while also keeping tens of thousands of police officers and firefighters on the job;
  • Modernize at least 35,000 public schools with $25 billion in infrastructure investments and $5 billion to improve community colleges; and
  • Put construction workers back on the job with $15 billion to rehabilitate and refurbish hundreds of thousands of vacant homes in communities across America.

The building industry is one of the most important for any nation, keeping them in jobs is one way of rating the economy. At least that's how I've evaluated it here. There is of course a flow on effect from such. If the building industry suffers it has a domino effect. If it succeeds then it has a very positive effect on the economy. Government sponsorships in these areas do help greatly from my little brain's knowledge. :D I haven't seen your link yet but will tomorrow when I'm awake. lol :D

I agree with LOTR, infrastructure jobs, such as house building, road maintenance and building, municipal buildings maintenance, etc. are essential to the economy of any country, whether developed or not.

You see, if people have jobs and money in their pockets they will spend (some of) that money, shops will immediately start to feel the benefits and this will feed through to manufacturing, and so more jobs.

And as you know, if the American economy gets moving again then the world economy will come trundling after, like an oil tanker being pulled by guiding tug boats.

However, for the economy to work as expected you need banks to work as well and, quite frankly, unless they are properly regulated (and I don't mean a repeat of the incestuous relationship banks had with the regulatory authorities that brought most of the western economies to their knees) then the US will be "crusin for a brusin" again.
