![]() Dear Forum Members I saw this article on the BBC news website this morning and, apart from thinking about it, thought that it would be interesting to know what other forum members would predict. Not withstanding, most predictions made in 1912 about 2012 are so wide of the mark that they are virtually laughable. Equally, some prediction made now about 2112 will no doubt be ridiculous to people living then. However, I can predict that human nature will not change and that we are still more likely to go to war over the scarcity of resources, regardless of what those resources are. Making technical predictions are impossible because no one knows what the next big, life changing invention (or group of inventions) will be, even though the groundwork for those inventions maybe being laid right now. I also believe that human ingenuity has no boundaries and that we can achieve anything we set our minds to, but therein lies the danger. Will we be sensible enough not to create something that will ultimately destroy us, currently it seems not. Anyway, here is the URL to the BBC article: BBC News - Twenty top predictions for life 100 years from now and here is the URL to some (almost accurate) predictions made by John Elfreth Watkins in 1900: BBC News - Ten 100-year predictions that came true UK Bob Last edited by ukbobboy01; February 7th, 2012 at 08:48 AM. |
