The US gallon was different to the gallon used in UK and Australia. The US gallon was smaller. Australia's changeover to metric was in the 1970's.

I did not know that about the UK not being fully metric other than they still had road sign posts with miles instead of kilometres. Do cars over there use KM or miles for distance and speed? And what about speed signs? Having both must be confusing for the younger generation.

So in car racing, I guess the european cars are faster because they use KM/hr instead of MPH. lol
(Oh a few of the German freeways are speed limitless I heard.)

Well, not being a car owner I am not 100% sure but, from my ageing memory, I believe they use both, on the speedometer there is an outer ring of numbers, I presume MPH, and an inner ring, which I believe is KPH. However, I could be wrong and its the other way around.

One thing I do know, and that is petrol is sold per litre and not by the gallon, I guess that the cost is now so high that the price looks psychologically better in litres than in it does in gallons.

Well, it's frigging hot again (still). Forecast for today was 40° C, apparently we got to 41° earlier this afternoon: Perth weather - local weather forecast

It's crazy - one side of the country is melting while the other side is flooding.

We're at the mercy of the wind today. It's been a bit wild, even by Perth standards.
Severe weather warning in place, with potential for wind gusts to 110 km/h.

It's been bad for a few days, earlier in the week some of the northern suburbs had severe damage: Clean up continues after tornado's destruction - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Bloody hot. And the thought of 40° plus for the next 3 days isn't so nice.

Perth weather - local weather forecast

Right now, it's 41.8° under my pergola (in the shade).

Apparently, we had our hottest night on record: Weather News - Perth endures hottest night on record

wow that's super hot. I believe Queensland's been going through a super hot spell. For us summer arrived a little late. Expecting 42° C Tuesday & 41° C Thursday. 24° C here presently.

You would prefer this over our 3-5 degrees celceus atm, not to mention breaking the highest measured wind (before the wind measuring thingy breaks, it has been higher, but not measured) in December at over 73 meters per second and average windspeed over 10 minutes above 50 meters per second.

We're so used to it though that unlike elsewhere people don't die etc.
