Number of hosts on the network...

It constantly flucuates for me between about 45 and 1500 - it seemed at first that the number steadily grew the longer the client was running but after a couple days there seems to be no correlation. I added a whole bunch more servers listed at http://opensourcep2p.sourceforge.net/ to my limewire but that seemed ot have no effect (in fact arguably it may have had a negative effect). Is there anyway to ensure I'm connected to alot of hosts? WHy does it fluctuate so much? Thanks.

Every time you loose one oy YOUR host, you loose all hosts which are connected to it too! For example you have 6 hosts and a horizon of 1200 (average 200 for every host), so if one host disconnect you loose the complete horizon of 200...

The hostcaches from open source.net have only the effect that they help you to connect, they donīt increase the number of your hosts... add the gnutellanet hosts! Bearchare and Limewire have private hostcaches they accept only own clients!

That makes sense... Other than not using router.limewire.com there is no real way to increase hte number of hosts? Mine usually hovers around 200 now?

The number of hosts in your statistics window is completely unimportant. If you'd ignore it, you'd sleep better.

Especially if you are a simple client (not an Ultrapeer), the number of hosts just reflects the number of ultrapeer-pingreplies you receive (aka the number of ultrapeers you know).

If each Ultrapeer has 60 shielded nodes and each shielded nodes had 3 ultrapeer-connections that would make 200 known ultrapeers 4000 hosts. How do you like that?

Total Hosts Total Files, Total Megabytes, is all innaccurate? You're not confusing this with the connections window where I always only see 3 hosts are you? Thanks for the info.

i donīt beleve this
if i have more hosts i will have a greater number of files
i have noticed that when there are more hosts, i get better/more search results

but how can i increase the number of the hosts?

The number of hosts in your statistics window doesn't have any direct influence on how many files you can find, believe it or not.

And there is no trick to increase the number of hosts you see, not as long as you are a shielded client.

Believe it. The number of hosts you see in the Statistics window is not even close so don't rely on that number as accurate.

Currently LimeWire has no method to accurately estimate the number of hosts that are available to you through your connections to ultrapeer nodes.

It is *SOMETIMES* true that the more hosts you have, the more search results you get. It just depends on what you're searching for to begin with and it also depends on the quality of the hosts you are connected to. Sometimes the number of hosts in your horizon has no bearing on the quality or quantity of search results you receive.

The only way you can increase the number of hosts you see is to increase the number of connections you have to other nodes in the Connections tab. However, depending on the speed of your internet connection, you may be limited in the number of connections you can maintain to other nodes.
