Connecting to LimeWire Folks, If some of you are using very old versions of LimeWire (version 1.6 or earlier at least), you may need to upgrade to get connected to the network. We turned off an old server that helped these old clients. Otherwise, let us know what your ISP is, whether you are firewalled and any other specifics about your setup. Note that many .edu facilities restrict access during the day. Thanks -greg |

I'm using the newest and cannot connect at all. It's been working fine till the first of the week it just stopped working. I use Bellsouth DSL and no fire wall. I've been using 2.2.4 but upgrade last night to 2.4.2 but still no luck. When I try and connect I get a green light for a second then back to red. Man this suxs. If someone can help me please email 1badss@ls1.com Thanks for any help. Bradley |

I take it this lack of server also pertains to 1.7d (my favorite) and 2.0.2 since I cannot get connected using either of these versions? BTW, my friend also uses 1.7d and was able to connect, albeit slowly, yesterday. She said the number of hosts would jump from 2 to 60 which is (obviously) ridiculously low. This whole thing makes me very sad as I really preferred using 1.7d. It was spyware free and didn't have that silly "chat" feature. I hope you will consider re-establishing support for your older versions. Thank you. (P.S. - for Mark, who was having lock-up problems with his downloading of 350 files... get a clue! Geeeez!) |

I am using AOL version 7 I have Limewire version 2.4 Sometimes I load Limewire and I get connected and I lose it. Most times I am not connected and I I do not know how to get on. I have pressed every button!! I get the gnutella Ok when doing the telnet windows test. So I do not know what the problem is - can you help before I give up on this program. Thanks marc. |

I've tried everything I can think of!!!!! I am using an iMac DV. My Limewire version is 2.4. My ISP is Verizon DSL. I am not behind a firewall. I have not been able to connect for a week. My Telnet client replies "gnutella ok" when I try that test. My ISP tells me there's nothing wrong. I have tried every connection address I can find in these newsgroups, including changing the port to 6347, 6348, and 6349, and trying "bearshare." I have increased Limewire's memory to 48 MB. I have tried turning virtual memory off. Nothing seems to work! Exactly what happens when I start Limewire is: Program starts, checks for updates, etc., and then tries to connect. It runs through all of the addresses and connot connect to any of them. It then refuses to try. When I select "Connect" from the file menu, the indicator turns green for approx. 1 second and then goes red. Nothing appears in the connections tab. This problem began when I upgraded to version 2.4. O, for the simpler days, when the user interface was less attractive but at least the d*** thing worked! I have tried EVERY suggestion I can find in these newsgroups. It has taken me over 4 hours to read them and try them. What else can I do? |

connection problems I have continued to try all of the suggestions I can find and none of them worked. I have also troubleshot all of my extensions, and all of the other typical Mac fixes, all to no avail. One thing did work, though: Mactella! It seems to me that this can only prove that there is a significant problem with Limewire - if not, why do competing gnutella clients function perfectly well on my computer? If it was a network or ISP problem, then mactella wouldn't have worked either, right? And, BTW, why has nobody posted a response to my request for help? Are there any developers out there who actually want to help Limewire users get their product to work? Why do they think I would fork over for a pro version, when the free version is this shabby? |

Try going back to 2.13 I went back to 2.13 and guess what........ It's working a hell of a lot better than 2.44..... Their attemp at limiting connections I think is part of the problem... Try it and post what you find...... Michael Willis Columbus Ohio mwstuff@cyberzero.com |
