Default Spyware!?!?!

I was checking for responses in my New version= No Connection thread and spotted this quote...

Quote:
New=bad;old=good

I should have stuck with what I had (v.2.3.4), but I was stupidly tempted by the all-singing all-dancing v.2.4.4 and installed it this p.m.

Since then no connections...

Taliban, I've followed all your advice to the letter and absolutely nothing happens after Limewire loads. I've a sneaking suspicion that this is related to the bundled spyware. I binned/blocked it with Ad-aware/ZoneAlarm as I did with previous versions of Limewire.

I remember though that v.2.4.4 connected the first time, only after I let JAVAWS.EXE online. I know that's spyware and I have since blocked its access ... and since have had no connection.

Coincidence???
What gives?

P.S. I still cant connect with 2.4.4 but I could with 2.3.4. Five minutes after installing 2.4.4 I stopped being able to connect.

Javaw.exe is the Java Run Time Environment. It has nothing to do with spyware. But since LimeWire is a Java program it won't run without the Java Virtual Machine (AKA Java Runtime Environment).

LimeWire doesn't show as a seperate program in taskmanager - it runs within the Java VM (Virtual Machine). When Javaw.exe tries to connect it is, in fact, LimeWire trying to connect.

Killing Javaw (or preventing it connecting to the internet) will stop LimeWire working (a lot).

Default Set Javaw.exe free!

Apologies for my ignorant and misleading message re. Javaw.exe as spyware-related. I've just let it run and Limewire is streaming hot as ever.
