Limewire connection ... Hello I have installed Limewire on my PC (Windows). There are listed following autoconnect hosts : - gnutella.hostcache.com - router.limewire.com:6346 - gnutellahosts.com:6346 The autoconnect Icon is checked, but when i start Limewire... nothing will happen. When i hit the connect button below, the autoconnect hosts will appear in the connected host window for a half second ... then they disappear again. Nothing happens. WHY ? What can i do ? Can someone tell me a host wich is online ? |

thanks for reply the ping is actually wierd, can't say I have seen this before: C:\>ping router.limewire.com Pinging router.limewire.com [64.61.25.139] with 32 bytes of data: PING: transmit failed, error code 65. PING: transmit failed, error code 65. PING: transmit failed, error code 65. PING: transmit failed, error code 65. Ping statistics for 64.61.25.139: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms C:\> So I did some more checking and I can't ping anything actually, but I still get online..........this is really confusing.......any ideas? |

I cant help you on AOL ( I hate proprietary systems, even for internet access), but it looks as if you are blocked by a firewall or something similar. The DNS-lookup is OK - you see it at the IP-address. Is there any firewall active? Axe |

Axe, maybe you (or someone else) could help me, too. I'm a new user of LimeWare, and am having similar problems to Tanis - I can open the installed program, but it won't connect to anything. I'm doing it from an office network, but I'm pretty sure that we aren't behind a firewall (never gotten a firewall message in the past). And I don't know how to "ping" a site, so I can't follow your advice to Tanis. Any ideas as to how to get connected? |

Hello Unregistred, I'm quite sure everybody can ping a site ;-). Check your browser settings for a proxy. For Netscape this is Edit-> preferences -> advanced -> proxies. If there is no proxy in...you are not behind a firewall. Maybe you can give me a hint what OS you are using? Cheers Ax |

same problem? Hi~ I have a similar, if not same problem, and I hope that refreshing this thread will get me some help. I can't connect. I'm on a corporate LAN, behind a class A firewall. I don't think we have ports blocked as a rule since I can connect out with every other program I've tried. Is there a way to query the firewall to see if the ports are blocked? I think my problem may be with DNS name resolution, as I can ping router.limewire.com by IP, but not by name. The net connections here use a proxy. Does LimeWire have a place to enter proxy info that I just haven't found yet? FYI: I'm on Win NT 4.0 sp6 on a pentium 733 system through a LAN. Thanks, Irish |

LimeWire does not support proxies in any form at this time, although we would like to in the future. You may be correct that this is a DNS issue in your case. I would recommend adding 64.61.25.139 (the ip address of router.limewire.com) to the "AutoConnect Hosts" section of the "Connection" tab. This will cause LimeWire to attempt this address directly on startup, as long as you have the "Prefer AutoConnect hosts..." option selected. You could also try manually adding this address in the top Add, Remove text field in the Connections tab. Keep in mind that it often takes a little while to get a connection to router.limewire.com because there are so many people attempting to connect. Hopefully this will help. You could also try manually attempting to connect to gnutellahosts.com, as that will give you valid pongs (gnutella pongs/addresses to connect to on the network). |

Regarding the proxy problem I can share your information. Sometimes I'm also behind a proxy, and i cant connect, probably because the prot is also blocked. Adding proxy-support would *really* be a smart thing..... Axe |
