Hi:

I had a similar problem. After a lot of grief I finally uninstalled Java completely from my system using the "add/remove" programs option in Control Panel. Then I started Limewire. It prompted me that it could not start without Java and posted a Link to download a copy. I did, installed it and it has worked fine every since. I guess I had a corrupt file in Java.

Good Luck

Norm

Thanks very much for that.
This problem has been frustrating the buggery out of me!!!
I will give this a go and see what happens. I will let you know.

Once again thanks for your reply.

Howdy Norm

I tried your solution and it worked ok for a day then it started giving me the same message and won't allow me to stay in Limewire long enough to download anything. Sometimes it brings up the message as soon as I get into it or I start searching and it brings up the message.

I got rid of Java and then re-downloaded it and that is when it worked ok for a day, or should I say 1 song. I then got rid of Limewire and re-downloaded it but it still doesn't work properly.

HELP!!!!!!

Thanks
Casper

Casper:

Are you using IE 6.0?

What operating system are you running?

Look in Control Panel and see what version of Java you downloaded.

Howdy

I am using Internet Explorer 6 and I downloaded Java 1.4.1 Web Start.

A friend suggested that I uninstall Java because he uses Limewire, doesn't have Java and it works ok for him.

If I did this, would I use Internet Explorer 6 as the web browser??

Thanks for your help.

casper September 30th, 2002 07:47 PM

PS I forgot to say I have a Celeron 900 with 24 gigs memory

Limewire worked ok for me before so I am at a loss!!!

Norm October 1st, 2002 05:46 AM

Good Morning:

I think your friend is mistaken. Java is probably running without his knowledge if he is using Limewire.

Try this - Go to control panel and right click the Java icon. select open and choose the browser tab. If either IE 6.0 or Netscape is checked uncheck them. Reboot your computer and try Limewire.

I hope that works for you.

Are you in America? As it seems you answer me in our night time. I am in Australia.

Thanks for the suggestion. I got onto the net a few months ago and it brought up a box saying "Do you want to update to IE 6.0?" So I did. I hadn't used Limewire for awhile so what you are suggesting to do may fix this as I never had these problems before. I have just started to use Limewire again because I have joined another band and need to download songs for the band to do.

Thanks again
I will let you know how I went.

Hi Casper:

Yes, I am in America - Southeast (Tennessee). I hope to get out your way in the next couple years. I have always wanted to visit Australia / New Zeland.

Howdy Norm
I tried your idea and IE 6.0 was checked so I unchecked it but I still had the same problem. What I did notice in the control panel though is that I have 2 icons for Java. I may have loaded it twice by mistake. Would this be a possible cause for the problem?
This problem is driving me nuts because I can't download anything. Are there any other things I might be a ble to try?

You will love it in Australia if you ever come!!!

Norm October 8th, 2002 05:44 AM

Hi Casper:

Boy, nothing seems to work for you. I am not sure about the second instance of Java. I think I would uninstall them both. Then when you try to run Limewire it will direct you to a site to install Java. During the install when you get the option to use Java in IE 6.0 choose NO.

If that doesn't work I don't know what to try next.

We are going to try and plan a trip your way during our winter (your summer) in 2004.

Howdy Jef_exodus

No, I never did get my problem fixed. I tried all of Norm's ideas but to no avail!!!

I will let you know how it goes.

It looks like I'm in the same boat as you guys. I can't get LW Pro to work either. Each time I get an error with javaw.exe, and LW shuts down. I'm running LW Pro 2.7.3, XP SP2, and Java 1.4.1. I've tried everthing suggested by Norm to no avail.

Norm November 1st, 2002 06:03 PM

I notice you are running Java 1.4.1. Is that the version Limewire directed you to?
