Limewire just doesnt work

I cant get any new downloads. Any that I might get say 'could not move to library'. I feel cheated paying for something that doesnt work as well as the free version.

Hello motrhed3,

I am unsure to what the problem is but I have seen that there are quite a few people that are having this problem, and I was wondering if you could just help me out with a few questions that I have because I too would like to find out what is causing this problem to occur.

From what I can tell you have just recently bought the latest version of LimeWire, would you be able to tell which which version you updated from please.

And what OS are you currently running on your machine?

I will have a look through previous threads for you also to see if there is a fix already out around the place to fix this.

Queries

I had 2.7.something on a computer I shared with my sister, which had win 98, but then she upgraded to xp. I then bought Limewire Pro and was given 2.8.5. I didnot use it much, until I bought my own system, also with XP. I did not know how to get my download page, so I bought Limewire again {also 2.8.5}. I wasable to d/l a few files, but since the first night all my d/l's come up 'could not move to library'.

Hi:

A couple things you might try --

Go to the top bar in Limewire. Select - tools, options, saving

Make sure there is a valid existing directory specified here. If not then create one

Select - Library, incomplete

See if your files are here. If they are highlight them and select resume to complete the download.

Good Luck

Norm :)

Could not move to library

I was running LWPro 2.7.3 and everything was great, then this annoying message kept coming up everytime I started it up, telling me to upgrade to 2.8.5 and so I did-- just to get rid of the reminder message. Now everytime I try to download something I get "could not move to library" in my status column! Goddamit, 2.7.3 was fine the way it was!

If all else fails you can roll back. I am still using 2.8.5 but I am thinking of rolling back. I really expected a 2.8.6 "bug fix" release before now.

If you do decide you want a prior version you can find it here -

I truly expected to see 2.8.6 by this time... especially due to the widely recognized glitches in 2.8.5.

I'll hold on a bit longer with 2.8.5... hopefully we'll see 2.8.6 very soon.

Any comments LimeWire developers? ;)

library

yeah, norm, I tried that, and got two downloads then all the rest are back to 'could not move to library', I think it's an error in the 'downloads.dat' file in the incomplete folder or the similiar folder in the shared folder. I am not positive, but then again I'm not a programmer, so I don't know how to check it.

Another thing that has been working for me (sometimes) is to go to the library tab, select your incomplete folder, highlight the file and select resume. Sometimes, although shown on the download screen as 100 percent complete, they really are not complete files. Often the download will resume, complete and then move to the library. If you get a "requery sent" instead of a resume it will help the resume process if you will do a new search for the file. This will help re-establish routing to the file.

new routing

 I tried the routing idea before but the rusume thing hasn't worked. I moved on to an older version with lesss problems.

I agree

I'm taking my songs that I'm sharing and hitting the highway. Lime Wire's a waste of time. Check out Imesh everybody.

It says if you share songs that you are more likely to achieve success in your download attempts, so I put 4 songs and a friggin music video in my share file
We will miss your four songs and a frigging music video, shared only because you thought you had to. Seems like you wouldn't share anything if you could get away with it. Leech another network.

leeches

Sounds more like swinewire is the leech network. It takes my files, yet gives little in return.

MamiyaOtaru January 7th, 2003 11:00 PM

takes them, and gives them to me. It's unfortunate that the network somehow chose you to pick on

motrhed3 January 8th, 2003 11:44 AM

whatever

gee, how insightful of you...........:D
