Unhappy Connection Woes

I am with all of you guys. Same problem when I upgraded to 2.8.6. I cannot connect now. I am really frustrated, and I am sick of the support emails telling me it's everyone elses fault but theirs. This is a nightmare, and more customers will be lost. Anyone know any good ideas to get connection going? I've done all the tests, configured everything already.

If LimeWire does not work, use another filesharing tool. There are plenty of them.

I would just like to know how and why, and if there is anything Ican do to fix this. No one has given me a reasonable answer. I just started happening when I downloaded 2.8.6. Older versions of pro were working better.

As far as I know this problem was never seriously investigated. And I have my doubts anybody would be able to reproduce it without knowing lots of details about your system configuration.

So there is no fix yet, but if you find one, you can post it here. First thing I'd try is disabling all firewall software on your system.

I agree with Trap_Jaw.

After using Limewire for months I upgraded and fought a long frustrating battle before I discovered it was my own firewall preventing my connection. Now that is the first thing I would try.

Cool

Hello!

One problem some FireWall users experiencing is that for some reason the 2.8.6 version when first installed in some cases uses the port 6355 as listening port which is port that is not the default 6346 port that Gnutella is set to in many FireWalls or Routers. The solution is to change the listening port in LW to do that do the following:

Open LW and go to:

Tools>Options>Connections

and here uncheck the option to connect at startup and then click Apply then OK.

Now shut down LW.

RE-Launch LW and once again go into Tools>Options

But this time select Advanced then Port and here set the listening port to 6346 and then click Apply then go to the previous option where you disabled the connect at startup option and once again make a check mark so that it will connect at startup. Then click Apply and then OK.

Now Shut down LW once again.

Now RE-Launch LW once again and see if it will connect as it should.

You don't have to restart LimeWire to change the listening port. The changes will become effective the moment you push the Apply/OK button.

Hello!

I use the Mac version of LimeWire and for me whenever I change the listening port while connected and up an running my entire computer frezzes. I have to first disable the startup at launch option then re-launch LW in unconnected status and then change the listening port and once again enable the startup at launch option and then close LW and once again launch LW to make it work.
