Angry Can't connect to 6346 Host

I have gotten Limewire installed by D/l the int'l version.
However, now I can't connect. It is configured to 6346 but sez it can't find an incoming connection.
I use 6257 and 6699 for WinMx
What is the problem?

Limewire is starting to remind me of E-Donkey, which supposedly was great but I never got it running. And, after reading all these posts, I am very doubtful if I will get anyting working
with Lime
I am also getting the "Upgrade" box at the start, yet I (unfortunately?) paid my $$$ already!

How do I resolve BOTH problems, esp #1.

If not, can I get a refund? Kazaa, Winmx and Imesh ran "out of the box"

Could you explain your problem and the exact error message in plain English please? The little English I learned at school is apparently not sufficient to understand you.

i thought i was clear, but geez....sorry i wasn't...no need for sarcasm. I'm frustrated enuff as it is....

The error msg I get is: "Could not find a port to use for incoming connections. Pls specify a port from the configuration window".

I have no clue where the 'configuration window' is. However, I DID go to Tools/Options/Advanced/Ports to find a port #.

Is THAT the Configu window?
It was Port 6346 there. On WinMx, for the 'listening' or incoming port, I use 6699 and 6257 for send/rcv.

Neither of those worked for Lime.

Have I spoke English this time?

If not, I no habla. I am trying to be very calm here with the problems I am having...it ain't easy. Frustration reigns
I fix one thing and then something else pops up. Nothing in the FAQs about this stuff.

More info:
Just discovered the Firewall (Force Local IP) option

I have 0.0.0.0. and the Port # is 6257 (the one I use in WinMx).

I use the MacAfee Firewall program because I have a cable modem.

When I type in 6699 for the (In the Port Option)Send/Rcv I get "Port Not Available. Pls select a different Port", yet 6699 works just fine for WinMx. If you can't use a similar port as another program (even if WinMx isn't running), how do I find another port?

On another note, I get the "Why doncha upgrade to da Pro version" msg upon starting up. Why? I paid my big bucks.
Or is THAT another Forum :=]

Thx

Foo

I was not sarcastic at all. I'm from Germany and I really find it hard to understand you. I'm not accustomed to the use of 'slang' or whatever you want to call it in written language.

I think you have to configure your firewall to open port 6346 if you want to use LimeWire.

Oh - and don't force your IP.

Sorry....didn't know you were from germany....

anyway, i just went thru every option McAfee Firewall and the Help Index and there seems to be no way to 'open' a port.
It is setup merely to 'block' a port.
I even turned it off and Lime didn't work. And...if it WAS the firewall, wouldn't it block all my other P2P apps?

Surely others have had a firewall installed and used Lime.

What did THEY do?
Btw, I just d/l this morn. Hopefull I got 2.9.

Thx

Trapjaw,

You stated this on another thread "If you can't connect at all, your internet connection sucks. In 99,9% of all such cases there is a firewall/router preventing LimeWire from connecting properly."

I am on a Cable Modem with Comcast. They DON'T block Gnutella (the rep i talked to had Limewire and uninstalled it...so he knows it works with Limewire).
He also is running a firewall program. Heck, you HAVE to with a cable modem.

So...how do I fix this or how do I get my $9.50 back??

Surely, you have run across this before? If so, how was it fixed????

btw, I guess in germany, they know 'suck'? <g>

Read this, if you want to know how to get your money back:

http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/refund

What I said in another thread about your internet connection not being adequate if you can't connect with LimeWire does not really apply here.

You have another problem. Java seems to think that your ports 6346-6356 are used by another application - my first guess was your firewall but it could be another program or maybe even some configuration problem with your operating system and java.

I don't think you can solve this problem from LimeWire's side. If java cannot open a listening port LimeWire won't work. In theory this error would be recoverable - WinMX might simply ignore it and set your status to 'firewalled' which means that you don't accept incoming connections. However LimeWire does not ignore that error and it won't connect.
