These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Sorry... I think I didn't xplain myself as I'm supposed to do as an user. I think for the developers is very difficult to find what's going on if we don't post more info to solve this: My OS: WINDOWS 2000 (The previous version worked very well on it, but everytime I launched it, it came with: the installer will guide you through a serie of steps to configure LimeWire for optimum performance... etc. Since I don't know very much about setting and configuring ABOVE the normal knowledge, I always had to configure Lime before I could use it... so if somebody wants to teach me -on a very simple way, of course- how to solve this problem, maybe I'll stay with the version before this 2.9.8 thing...) My connection: Modem 56 K (Motorola... It sucks!) I haven't installed the Java Runtime, is it that necesary? My firewall: Zone Alarm (but it let the previous version work! do I have to change a setting or what?) Router: what on earth is that? please don't kick me, I'm new on this, but enough experienced to answer: Connected to the internet when trying to download anything? hmmmm... of course, YES. Right now I'm downloading the ENGLISH version, to see if maybe that was the remote problem... please, wish me luck so I can share my rare music files with ya all... |

thanks for the specific information. it makes all the difference. i'd say the issue is zonealarm. i don't know how zonealarm works in detail but generally you have to specifically allow an app to access the internet, otherwise the firewall will block it. you probably at some point told zonealarm to let your old version of limewire get through, but you might have to do that again for the version of limewire you just installed (different name of application or whatever). actually, afaik, the firewall should give you a warning message where you can choose to let limewire through or not. If you chose to block it, you have to go back to the firewall settings and change them to allow limewire. to add to the confusion, some firewalls (at least norton does it) don't report limewire as "limewire" but as "Sun Microsystems Java Web", so be sure to allow that to access the internet. i hope that helps. please let us (the forum) know whether you got it to work and how. |

Thanx Osu! Well, now I realize the subject of my post is wrong: I meant "I downloaded the "Windows International" LimeWire setup... not the "spanish" version... oops. A few days later I downloaded the english setup version and for any reason I don't understand yet very well, the interface kept working on the spanish language, I mean, some of the files weren't erased by the uninstaller so I kept reading everything on this language... !? But that wasn't all... THIS TIME IT WORKED! It connected and since then I have downloaded a few songs And I have to add that since the installer asked me if I wanted to install the "JAVA RUNTIME" and I said YES (and it took an hour to download such thing -56kb modem...- ), now I don't disconnect as easy as before! I mean, before I installed this thing, my connection failed every 10 minutes, and I had to dial up again and again, but now... I don't know how this plug-in works, but I have to say I'm very happy I installed it, IT KEEPS ME CONNECTED SOMEHOW! So then it wasn't Zone Alarm's problem at all, but thanks Osu for giving me an opinion and a possible solution (now I do like this firewall and this WinY2K)... and I love my LimeWire version too! But hey... now that 3.0.2 is available... can I take the risk again? O_o I assume I have to... wish me luck ya all!! |
