Limewire freezes, connection problem I am operating on a Mac 0S 9.1 system on a G4 with cable/dsl connection. I just installed Limewire onto this computer successfully. Whenever I try to start Limewire, the main menu appears like it should, but then it freezes. I end up having to force quit Limewire. Does this have to do with a firewall? If so, what do I need to change within my browser settings to fix this problem. Or is this an entirely different problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
do you have a firewall? it doesn't have anything to do with your browser, explorer/mozilla/netscape can't affect limewire, it would have to be a separate program... or a router, which has some kind of firewall built in. but afaik this wouldn't cuase lw to hang... at least not on windows. this sounds like a system issue to me and these are difficult to pinpoint. possibly uninstall limewire, a clean re-instal of the systeml ('create new system folder' checkbox marked), and then re-install of limewire should take care of it. that would also allow you to install the most recent mac OS... but you might wanna check in the MacOS section of the limewire forum. please post back here if you get it working and let us know why. good luck! |
Hi Can you confirm that, when you downloaded the relevant version of Limewire for your OS, you also downloaded the relevant upgrade of Java. There will be serious problems with your memory allocation in OS 9.1 if you are using an early version of Java (I forget whether you started with Java 1.2.1 or 1.3.1 but, whichever, you need a virtual memory patch to avoid freezes). There are other reasons for freezes but none of them are connected with your firewall — if you have connected and show the green light in the bottom left-hand corner of the window, you have the correct port configuration — and as Osu-uma says, your browser is also irrelevant. We'll get to the other possible causes for freezes if you confirm that you have the appropriate Java installed. |
