Connection Problems(red Dot)

Ok, here is my problem. I have 2 computers. One is at home and one is at my business. I have DSL on both computers from the same ISP. My computer at home will only get a green light for about 5 seconds when I first open Limewire, then it goes red. I am using Windows ME at my home computer. Now at my business I am using Win 98 second edition and using the same ISP with DSL connection and I have no problems connecting. Is this a problem with ME or something else? I have no firewall installed on either computer and my ISP says that do not block any file sharing programs. i also have the same problem with Kazaa not connecting at home but the business is fine, which leads me to believe it is something in Win ME. Please help someone.

brian 4125,

can't think of anything offhand. did you check the 'connections' tab? is there activity ('connecting', 'handshaking') or is it just blank?

also, could add your provider to the do-not-block thread in this forum. we're trying to collect a list of providers that are safe for gnutella/limewire.

thanks!

You'ren not behind a router or anything at your house?

Are you running the latest version of Limewire?

brian4125 June 19th, 2003 12:46 PM

I just downloaded it for the first time on Wednesday. It is version 3.0.2 Limewire Pro. I am running ADSL thiugh a ADSL modem.

Does windows ME come in with a built in software firewall or do you have any sort of security programs that would block incoming connections on port 6346?

brian4125 June 19th, 2003 01:47 PM

ok, just got home, what i am running is a westell dual connect NAT Router, this was provided by my ISP. As far as Me having a software friewall, I do not believe that they do. I have disabled my security programs and everything still acts the same.

Also my connections tab here at the house has the whole space filled up with different host numbers and says connecting, then scrolls to more #'s and so on and so on, it just keeps trying to connect

Blackbird June 19th, 2003 02:18 PM

Ok, it is connecting. Just wait a couple minutes for it to establish a good connection. Give it an hour, say. If that doesn't work, try opening up port 6346 on ur router.

brian4125 June 19th, 2003 06:05 PM

It is not staying connected, it just says connecting but it never does, and it keeps scrolling through different hosts and only stays on each one for .03 seconds at the longest.

How do I open port 6346 on the router, I have never done that before
