Java Message/Connection Errors? Try This! (Updated) Now that I finally straightened things out, I'm doing this one over again for those who missed it or for those still having problems. First, I'm running on a PowerPC G3 233Mhz iMac-OS 9.2.1 / DSL Router; so your computer may vary with this application. O.K., I have found since using LimeWire 2.9.8, now using 3.0.1 that by utilizing an old Java Plug-In, I haven't had (knock on wood) any Java and/or Connection problems. If your still running an older version than 3.0.1, I highly recommend that you update to it, if not, this should still get the kinks out. After you download & expand LimeWire, place the LimeWire Folder in your Internet Applications Folder. Inside the LimeWire Folder is an app; "lax.jar". Expand that & it will create a "lax.jar Folder". Now go on-line (if your not) to <ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/sdk/plugin/mac/MacNPSDK.sit> : this should automatically download. Once downloaded, go off-line & expand it. This should create a "Plug-Ins SDK" Folder. Drag & Drop the "Plug-Ins SDK" on the "lax.jar Folder". Once done, open the "lax.jar Folder", find & open the "Plug-Ins" Folder & in it you will see a folder named "Classes". Open that & inside you will find an app; "java_30.zip". Expand that & it too will create it's own folder. Now, close everything up & use your Norton Disk Doctor or TechTool or whatever application you have to make sure all is O.K.. Restart your computer. Now when you first boot-up LimeWire, it is advised that you do so on-line so you can set it up as you will. When your done with the first portion & ready for LimeWire's main screen, open the "Options" & uncheck "Connect At Startup". This will keep you off-line until you finish setting up the Apps. the way you want. If it still says your on-line, close & open it again but now you will not be connected until your ready. Hopefully there will not be a Java Error message. If there isn't, then all should be good to go! Ever since I put this old Java app. in, my Connections have also worked out quite well. It is, however, up to you how you set up & run LimeWire. Hope that this works for you. *Note For Uninstalling Older LimeWire Applications*: Use the "Uninstaller" in LimeWire but this WILL NOT delete all. After using the Uninstaller, drag the rest of the old LimeWire Folder to the trash. Then, go into your "Preferences Folder" & delete ".com.zerog.registry.xml" & the ".limewire" Folder. Lastly, many user's have said to use Sherlock in order to find any other LimeWire Apps. still present but Sherlock, for some reason, will not pick up on the "LimeWire Installer" text located in the MRJ Libraries Folder inside your Extensions Folder. Find that & also delete. Now everything should be ready for your updated version. If you need help on installing & running LimeWire, feel free to drop me a line & we'll go through it step by step. Happy Hunting! Jimbo. |
