connection problems

hello, i'm a new user to limewire and seem to have downloaded the right version for mac OS X, however i do not appear to have any connection as i cannot search for anything. can anyone offer any help? i'v tried downloaded the 'jum' version too but this causes further problems - should i uninstall the whole lot and reinstall jum version?

many thanks for any advice given.

Hi ells. What kind of problems did you have with the jum version--it's worked so easily and smoothly for me.

Lots of stuff upstream, like firewalls and routers can hinder connections. What gear do you have between you and the internet?

lilbill08, do you have the view connections pane checked? It will help see what hosts LW is contacting for connections

connection

Hello Stief,

Thanks for your reply (sorry this ones a bit belated). I have a mac running on OSX, but is linked to the net (via a broadband/cable connection) with three other PC's on a small network. So judgin by all the strings I'm reading, i could'nt have a worse setup if I tried!! I'm not particularly literate with proxy's et al. but i have disabled the firewall on the mac, and opened access to port 6346 (for the gnutella stream). Is my ISP restricting access to the gnutella network or do I have mess around with the Firewall security of the other PC's in the network?
I am still unfortunately gettin the red dot and only brief flashes of green for a second or so.
Many thanks for any advice offered (by anyone!)

Try going to the host computer, that is, the computer with the router attatched to it, and open up port 6346 in the router. That means you have use whatever router utility software or other software interface that should've come with your router to open up the port. Try that, as well as updating to the latest version, and see if it works.
