Mac OS 9 connection problems, freezes

I have a imac OS 9.I, 56k modem, use AOL 5, heres the problem:

No connection( and yes I am on the internet, and dont have a firewall).
After much waiting, and no connections I did manage to connect one time,
and download a song.
Then I was unable to connect for several days ( and yes I do know enough
to punch the connect button). Finally I did connect and got 24% of a song-
then the download disconnected and the red button came up. I waited for
an hour, still nothing, so I cancelled the download. Ever since, Limewire wont
even launch, saying it has an internal error. From the internet, it does launch
but causes my system to freeze. Also, a while ago I tried increasing its memory
but for some reason, it keeps popping back to the original memory, even when
I lock it. This never happens with any other application. Im about to just trash the
whole thing as a buggy mess- any suggestions?

Delete everything of limewire and reinstall the latest version.

Even though I had just installed what was supposedly the latest version, I threw
caution to the wind and decided to follow your advice, downloading the latest
version AGAIN . Along with it I got an internal error message with a nice long string to copy
and send to your brilliant technicians at bugs@limewire.com Here is an excerpt from their reply:

"Thank You for submitting a bug to LimeWire.com. This information is used by our developers to fix problems in future releases of LimeWire. However, this is not an email address for support."

So again- is there or is there not a way to fix this thing? Or is it just a buggy mess?

Try increasing the amount of memory allocating for Java MRJ.

Ouch, this thing just bit me! Is it possible this thing can have a bug? I have
never heard of such a thing for a Mac, but just recently the connection to
my printer failed. Then my whole system crashed- the worst crash I have ever had.
I lost my entire SYSTEM FOLDER. My computer wouldnt even turn on. I had
to do an entire reinstallment of it off a disc, and then spent the next 6 hours
fixing things. Everything is more or less working now, except for photoshop, for
some reason. Im still trying to figure out whats wrong with that. Needless
to say I have deleted everything Limewire off my computer. Perhaps it was'just
a coincidence, but the timing tells me something isnt right here. All this happened
since my last post, so I wasnt mucking about increasing memory to mrj at the time. Another
thought is it possible to download a bug in one of the 1 1/2 songs I managed to download
before all the problems started?

MP3 files cannot contain viruses or otherwise alter your system files. Chances are that this was a coincidence.
