Angry Grrrr!!!!!

will someone PLEASE comment on my connection issue! I am not behind a firewall, as I've had Kazaa before (but it doesn't work well so i'm trying to switch to this ) and I really don't believe I have a proxy server (how do i tell, and how do i tell which type i have?) and limewire will absolutely not let me connect. It green lights for only a second.

If you connect from home and have no Lan you sure have no proxy server, if you connect from work or from a school or university its possible - the easiest way is to ask your administrator.

Note that many companies and universities block their ports for file sharing!!!

Red face hmmm

Yeah, well, I do go to a university, but it allows me to share files on kazaa and kazaa lite, i've also had morpheus at one time, so I don't think that that 's the problem...I've had my firewall disabled for quite some time as well. This is a strange problem..I really don't know what it could be...If my school blocked file sharing, I wouldn't have been able to use the other programs, am i right? hmm....thanks for your input, i've been waiting for someone to reply to anything i have to say.

Kazaa uses an other port than Gnutella, so it might be possible...

but I think your problem it the server, ask your admi if your university uses a socks 5 proxy - this proxy isn´t suported by many Gnutella clients (AFAIK including Limewire) - try Xolox just to see if you can connect with this client to the Gnutella net (Xolox supports socks 5 proxies)

http://www.xolox.nl/

If you can connect with Xolox we found your problem, if not...

You can use all Gnutella clients (including Limewire) with your firewall without any problems... so the firewall isn´t the problem here.

the lack of a firewall may very well be the root of the problem. It is possible that you have been hacked and your system modified so that you have problems of the sort you are describing. Try Virus and Trojan scanning, and maybe it might be good to go the full 9 yards and do a reformat and clean install of your OS.

browsing_guest,

what are you talking about? Reinstalling the OS? Trojan? Virus? Perhaps little green man?

If you don´t know what about you are talking please don´t give advise here...

fyi, trap_jaw offered a proxy patch which has been implemented in the CVS builds by Jens-Uwe Mager for Mac OSX
