HELP ALL I WANT IS HELP October 15th, 2003 06:47 PM

Help Me Please!!!

I have windows 2000 pro and i cant seem to get limewire to work, kazaa does work but i dislike kazaa A LOT compared to limewire. I have looked throughout the forums for a long time and cant find a way to fix my connection problem. When i had an earlier version of limewire it worked fine, it wasnt until i downloaded the latest version of limewire that i was screwed over. I cant find my firewall...i think i mightve but it didnt help so im not sure and yes the connections menu with all the users put a bunch of users b4 me, ive got cable internet and a fast computer so im just looking for ideas that can help fix this connection problem.

thnx in advance for any help

Disable or enable a through (open the port) on port 6346-8.

I'm pretty sure Windows2000 has a software firewall and if you have cable via router, gateway or other type of hardware with a built in firewall, the documentation should show you how to access the software interface to open the ports.

any answers to that? October 16th, 2003 05:40 PM

maybe but limewire was working at one point in time until i get the new edition so.......

me agin...sry October 17th, 2003 03:14 PM

ok **** now im confused it worked until i downloaded like 5 songs then it shut down and wont connect again so any help would be nice cuz i just deleted kazaa cuz i thot LW was workin but i guess not

still waitin October 17th, 2003 09:43 PM

not sure wat kind of firewall but i dont think thats the problem considerin it has worked in the past and right after i downloaded it it worked also and it didnt stop working until i started to download some stuff then when like 7 songs finished it disconnected and i dont know wat happened....but ya i have had it running for hours on end without any results, i also keep it on wen my family uses it and they also have said it wont connect but im not exactly too computer smart so if u have any ideas could u lead me through em? lol....

thnx again for any help as it is needed very much cuz as every1 knows LW is better than kazaa :P

Also, many software firewall softwares only load your firewall settings into the firewall once. So if there is a power failure or the firewall hardware is turned on, the program must re-load the settings simply by being launched.

Blackbird October 20th, 2003 06:26 AM

Well, did you try fixing your firewall as we suggest?

not really sure how? October 20th, 2003 10:57 PM

as i mentioned earlier im not to computer smart and i dont know where the firewall would be located or how to remove it

Blackbird October 21st, 2003 06:19 AM

Alright. Do a file search on your harddrive. Search for "firewall" and if you find nothing from there, search for "fire".

If you find it, describe to us what the settings are and we'll try to walk you through opening the port.

Also, if you still have it, look at the instructions manual for your router, or at the very least, figure out the model number and then download the manual from your router's manufacturer's website.

ummm October 21st, 2003 03:45 PM

it appears we dont have a firewall......nuthings comin up, the only thing that came up was a link to a search for a firewall? should i download one or wat?

Blackbird October 21st, 2003 05:21 PM

If you connecet to the internet via cable or dsl, you probably have a firewall, if you don't...

Well, there're a couple more tried and true little things.

Try downloading the latest version of Limewire and see what happens. Totally delete the old one from your harddrive, including preferences.

not sure October 21st, 2003 09:03 PM

i think i delete everything but im not positive, the files i get rid of are, under add and remove programs i remove limewire then under my computer i go to program files, find the limewire folder then delete, ive done this many times....is there another folder?? and also the newest version is 3.58 is it not?

Blackbird October 21st, 2003 09:25 PM

Yes, that's the newest main release.

Soon the latest 3.6.x main version should be out. The beta of that is just about done.

another version October 22nd, 2003 02:36 PM

ok cool, but i wanted to know if i delete everything also if u happen to know?

Blackbird October 22nd, 2003 08:18 PM

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you're saying.

the preferences October 22nd, 2003 08:39 PM

as i mentioned on the first page i asked if i was deletin the preferences as u said i needed to dlete that also, so i explained everything i dleted and i was wonderin if i included the preferences?

Blackbird October 22nd, 2003 08:45 PM

You should delete the preferences, yes.

ok....ummm October 22nd, 2003 10:27 PM

lol ok....i was asking if i am deleting them???lol if they r included in the stuff i delete each time but yes i know that they should be deleted. are they under another name for example? or where would i delete them?

Blackbird October 22nd, 2003 10:39 PM

Aha. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I don't really do windows, so I'm not sure. A good bet would be to search for "lime" after you've "removed" (i think that's what it's called) Limewire. If anything "lime" comes up, delete it (unless of course, you have pictures of limes or something that doens't look limewire related). That should be a clean wipe, and then try installing the latest version of LW.
