Can't search, no green light yet am downloading

I'm trying to do a search and red light won't change to green when I try to connect. Oddly, I am in the middle of downloading a file which is going well!!
Tried emptying the Limewire preferences to no avail I'm sorry to say. Any one have any input on this? Urrgy
