AOL upgrade causing connection problems? Of the people having connection problems, how many have recently upgraded to AOL 9.0? There is a McAfee firewall or something in there that might be blocking incoming and outgoing connections. Many other connection problems have been traced to other firewalls. Thanks -greg |
You may want to "stick" this. I know that there are a lot of AOL users (I feel sorry for them all) that use LW. Keep up the good work! deepblue |
AOL 9.0 offers you the option using the firewall in 9.0 You can view your settings by clicking "view safety status" from the sign on screen. I do not use their optional firewall and Limewire is running fine alongside of AOL 9.0. I think I have had every beta version of AOL 9.0 installed over the past few months without any issues. I do use a router and Norton Internet Security without a hitch. I don't recommend you go without any firewall but I do think AOL's firewall (powered by McAfee) is better left off. AOL 9.0 is trying to do too many things without doing much of it well and often without the user having the option of choosing. |
Connection Problem No Longer for Me I appear to have solved my problem of discontinued connection by placing a short cut on the desk top to link with the ISP without using Internet Explorer. I open the connection to the ISP then open LimeWire having little else in the way of programs open. It works for me simple yes/dangerous l hope not but l do hope this simple solution works for you and others. Barynz |
What do you mean by link to the ISP? This could be useful for others. Thanks -greg |
Barynz, I don't understand what you mean. If you are using AOL you are not using Internet Explorer. If IE is causing your problem it is probably Java related not AOL related. Norm |
Perhaps l have misunderstood the discussion? I found l could after installing the programs necessary connect to LimeWire. The next time l started the computer it was dead. No amount of patients and clicking 'Connect' achieved anything. I altered firewall settings and went through all the suggested technicalities to no avail. If l uninstalled LimeWire and all associated programmes - repaired registries and loaded old settings (WinXP), l could re-install and gain access but again next time there was no connecting to LimeWire. I did this four times. I then went to "Network Connections" in the Control Panel Copied a ShortCut of the "Dial Up Connection" to the Desktop I now connect to the Internet through this Shortcut and once connected l open LimeWire.= Connection. If l have anyother internet programs open or, open any other programs ie Outlook then, l again have problems. I also 'Sign Out' and close down 'Windows Messenger'. Please accept my apologies should l have missed the point, l tried just about everything to make it work and thought l would share a find that somehow or other has helped me. I trust l have not interupted a "flow" here...................Regards Barynz |
Barynz, I was not trying to be critical. You solved your problem and I wanted to be sure we understood what you did for the benefit of all. I better understand now how you are operating. I am glad your system is working. Norm |
No offence Meant - no offence taken I wish you all the best of luck in solving your problems Barynz |
Thats so funny, It's funny you say that. I upgraded to AOL 9.0 not long ago and suddenly I can not connect or have a very week connection to Limewire Pro 3.8.9. If you figure out the problem I would love to here it. |
