Angry keep losing connection...help please

after a couple downloads...my entire modem freezes up...ip address goes stale...have to reboot modem...then same thing happens all over again.

thought it was a safari conflict...nope

changed ports...nope

newest verison of LW 10.8.5

running os x.3 on i bookg4

internet connection is fine until i start up limewire for a few downloads....then internet connection crashes.

does anyone know if this could be a comcast problem? do i have a bad cable modem?

Some ideas:

You can minimize the number of connections LW attempts on startup by cleaning out your incomplete folder.

If you use a router, check the firmware version.

If the ISP supplies the modem, I've only read of problems with USB modems on the Mac. The ethernet ones can also give trouble. Use the Utilities->Network Utility->Ping, and enter your ISP's address. If you show packet loss, let them know. Perhaps they are oversubscribing your line.

I have installed lime wire and so has my mom she has exellent on hers but I have poor what is the problem can you help me fix it. Also after a while it disconnects

Good point--what is different about her system? (route to the internet, like cablemodem and router, firewall setttings, system versions, machine type, connection times, files shared, etc)
