Blocked connection & lost Pro Hi... Now I've got a real problem. With all the looking and setting up my computer crashed. I had to go to a system restore and the LimeWire Pro 3.8.8, to which I upgraded, is gone... COMPLETELY. Ther old version is there. When I went to reply to this last message it didn't have my user name or password. What can I do to get back? Dov |
Hi, Dov... No, you really don't have any big problem with this... http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...pro_lookup.jsp ;) |
I'm Back and working Hi Ursula... Israel is still called the land of miracles but modern technology and good help also plays an important role. After the last fiasco and your reply, I downloaded the "international version" rather than the simpler "English." It went right into the Symantec list. I clicked on the icon, a couple of windows came up asking what to do about LimeWire shop, jar, etc. I set all to always open and BINGO... It went right through..... It's turbocharged right now. Thanks for all your help and patience. No blanket was necessary. DOV |
Good news, Dov ! Glad you are OK now... And, look on the bright side ! Think about all of the truly wonderful things you have learned in these past few days... They will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life ! I mean, the next time you are in some social gathering and there is some outrageous bore you want to politely dismiss, just start telling them the story of configuring your p2p client !!! (A great 'party-stopper', hmmm ?) Every cloud has a...... :p |
You're Right Ursula... How right you are... Every computer probelm is a learning experience.... particularly the ones that are solved. Thanks again... DOV |
how to fix norton personal firewall problems uninstall zone alarm, (read "norton personal firewall"). for that matter, don't bother ever installing any port-blocking software on your computer. it protects you exactly "0" from outside crackers, though it seems to do a great job of screwing things up on the inside. get a real firewall like a router, or a linux box with two network cards and a switch. |
your message Hi.. Thanks for the suggestion... There's an old saying that if it works don't try to fix it. Right now it's working better than it ever did. |
if it ain't broke... as a computer tech who spends a lot of time fixing port related problems, it's not even really in my own interest to tell you what i just did. port blocking programs generate a lot of revenue for me. but if something stops working on your machine, you may appreciate my free advice even more! |
Ok, on mine I've got LW & javaw w/ full permissions in NPF, yet I'm only able to listen on port 6348. I see in NPF that unused ports are stealthed, and regardless of the slider position, or permission level, NPF considers port 6346 unused & stealths it. Does anyone know how to define used ports specifically for each app in NPF? I try to change to 6346 in LW, and I get the port unavailable error. |
