eeek! lol There's lots of repeats here! But I do need to ask yet again. Do these things: A. Configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) (if you need to disable Win XP's Firewall in favor of another then: go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box.) B. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? (If you can't reach that page then your port 6346 is blocked!) C. Please give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider? 10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. If you require Port Forwarding: * If you have a modem/router that uses NAT but does not utilise Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) then you may need to forward (open) a port. (Check the specifications of your device to find out if it supports UPnP or not! Some only support it in USB mode & some not at all!) See http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm if you equire port forwarding to open up Port 6346 which LW uses by default. Remember the most important thing is to 1st set up a Static ip or else port forwarding won't work! Then forward a port (after choosing model from that site, & selecting port forward, choose LimeWire from the list of programs to open a port for.) Th 3rd step is this: Within LW: - Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. |

If you're concerned about the possibility of your ISP (Internet Service Provider) blocking or filtering your p2p sharing or just LW, then see these: ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire & also A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 & 2 which has a link to alternative instructions. And as LeftSaidFred said, it might even be an idea to give them a call to tell them to open any ports that might be blocked or to stop secretly filtering your p2p sharing use. Often people at the front desk don't know but someone will. |

Ok, brief synopsis. Ok. Let me give you a brief description of my system and problem. I'm on a Compaq Presario, 5000 series, 633 celeron with 127mb (yes, 127 not 128, dont ask me why.) of RAM. Roughly 10 gigs of HD space left over. Java version 1.42, Lime Wire Version 4.07. Dialup connection 56k on a US Rpbotics external fax/modem through Juno's premium service. That having been described, I'm at a loss here. I've got my Zone Alarm configured to allow LW to connect through it, and tested it using the test links found elsewhere in previous posts. The port seems to be working just fine and isn't blocked by my ISP. Also, I've tried using that purger located previously, it worked, I ran LW again and nothing. It comes up just fine, loads and all that and starts to connect.............and starts to connect............and continues trying to connect, but never seems to finish the connection. Hopefully you can help me out, because I've heard so many wonderfull things about the LW system. (No, not trying to butter anyone up.) As a side note: Kazaa Lite seems to be having the same problem, dont know if that information will help you guys figure out the problem, but it seemed relevant. |

HELP am thinking of reading books? |
