Question Connecting on A School Network

I'm in the dorms at my University, and I currently only search and download from nodes connected on the LAN. Is there any way around this?

As the philosophers chant goes...

"Yes, but (maybe) no !"

But, we need to know about your system and your connection and what p2p client you are using or wish to try.

There are many posts here on this subject and, unfortunately, there is no one 'panacaeic' solution to cover all the possible 'problems' that may need to be overcome...

First thing to try, just before you diligently reply with your essential info,

is to click on the

Port :6346 - Test If It Is 'Blocked'

link in my 'sig' below...

I am running limewire v 3.8.10 on OS X3.3 connected through a T1 connection from the university. On my system itself port 6346 is not blocked. I unblocked it eons ago in sys prefs. When ever I click on the link to check to see if it is open however I get a cannot load page error in both ie and safari.

The result of the 'test' means that the administrator of your school's system is blocking Port 6346...

Have you tried any other ports yet ?

There is much info in the

Alternate PORTS link, also in my 'sig'...

There is no way to connect to Gnutella if your administrator knows what he is doing.

So is there any hope? I can still download from other people running limewire on the network. If that means anything

That's why my opening line was...

This means that your admi is blocking outside connections, it makes no sense to block the ports within the LAN. Usually universities pay for the traffic, this means when you download more files, the university have to pay more money. Thats why most unisversities block all sharing applications.
