Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. How to connect to a specific IP Greetings - this may be simple, but it's not intuitive....;-) Is there a way for me and a buddy to connect to each other with Limewire without running a search? If we know each other's IP addresses, is there a way to just "type 'em in" somewhere...?? Or...??? Thanks in advance to the group - T.L. |

is it just me or wouldent this be like incredibly usefull. and it would probably be a simple way to help the network as a whole(cutting down on the searching necessary). i think this should be high on someones too do list. i mean how big a leap can it be if limewire is already making point to point connections. i checked this out in bear share and was told it can be done with bear share, but i prefer lime wire, it seems more intuitive to me and that i belive will draw more people to it in the long run and more people= more files. |

You can use a feature called Browse to look at all the files a particular node is sharing. Also, you are supposed to be able to type something in like "files on 123.456.789.012" and it will browse that host for you. However, I have never had this work successfully. :-( |

To browse a host, you will need to type in this string into the LimeWire Search field on the Search Tab. Using the Browse Host feature for reference, the syntax is as follows: "files on " + "IP Address" + ":" + "Port Number" This may look weird, but yours should look like this when you try it. Make sure that you pay very careful attention to spacing. files on 123.456.78.901:6346 This is just how the Browse Host feature does it. But like I said, I haven't been able to successfully browse any host with LimeWire. Try it out and tell us if it worked, ok? :-) |

You can also make a connection to another computer under the Connections tab. Under the Connected Hosts box, there is a field where you can type in an IP address. Clicking the add button will tell LimeWire to attept to connect to that host. I have gotten this to work a few times. From there, you can perform a search, and whatever is on your friend's computer should show up in the search. |

eureka! it worked sort of. first i tried connecting in the connect tab. i figured if i connect to my freind (in this case my home computer from work) then search for somthing im sure is the only on that computer, then when its found brows that host that i could brows a particular host. problem with this was i could not connect i think it was due to the host being too buisy. then i tried files on ect. and that worked but i got the wrong computer , cause thoes definatly arn't my files shania twain yesh. anyways i got this ip address from going to the web site http://www.netins.net/dialup/tools/my_ip.shtml im on a cable connection. i will try this once more later today. anybody know how to find out your ip address in windows nt. there should be a feild with this info in lime wire. |

To Find Your IP In Win 98, you can go to START > RUN, type in "winipcfg" and hit enter. Your IP will be given as well as some other information. In Win NT, I don't know how to do it other than to use another program. I recommend StayAlive Pro. It keeps your connections alive and prevents disconnects due to inactivity. It can also click OK or whatever if aol asks if you want to stay online. Of course, this works best with dial-up. It also gives you useful info such as your IP address, connections speed, Time Online, Upload Rate, Download Rate, etc. Obviously, the main feature you are looking for here is the IP address capability. The download is less than 1.5 MBs, so it won't take long. Hope this helps! :-) http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0...st-7-2.2276896 |

This may interest folks: http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/faqs#Private So am I the only one who is bugged by the publication of IP addresses? It's information I'd rather keep to myself. I want to share my folder, but couldn't LimeWire and other Gnutella clients mask the address but still allow downloads? |
