Java? could the reason i can't connect really be Java? on OSX? please could someone tell me about whether Java or the lack thereof (although i'm sure i have it) is the reason i can't connect and how do i fix it?

You'll definitely (unless you did a custom install) have Java on your machine, but for LW it's always best to have the most recent version. Open your System prefs & open Software Update & let it scan for any possible updates you might need. Whether Java is the sole reason you can't connect, I don't know. You haven't told us anything about your setup other than it's OSX. What type of connection do you have, are there firewalls, your OSX version, networks, & anything else that might help us to try to problem solve your issue.

Default info on setup

sorry about that. i have OSX 10.2.8. the firewall exists between the server and the connection to the internet and not between individual computers and thier connection to the net. i have a server connection to the net and therefore i would imagine that it's best described as a cable/dsl connection. the IT guy here at work has sat down with me and we're both confused. a Gnutella port has been opened and it does seem to attempt a connection but then drops it. i never get above the first bar of connection quality. everything is enbaled as far as the port goes and we can't think of anything else. any ideas?

Connections & firewalls are not my area, I'll leave this one up to a more experienced person in that area. Which port are you using & have you attempted to configure LW for firewalls & forcing ip, etc? In the meantime if you search firewall on the forum you might find an answer sitting here already.

Make it simpler: go to Limewire->Preferences and click on the Bug Reports selection. There, click for an example and scroll down to the part where it says: Recieved incoming this session. If it says true then Limewire does not have a problem from Firewall. If it says false, Firewall(s) are blocking the connection.

Default bug report

thanks for that. tried the bug report and for "incoming this session" is says "false". if what you say is correct then a firewall is blocking the connection. what do i do above and beyond doing all i thought had to be done. i recieving on port 6346, have enabled forcing the connection and much else. how do you recommend i post my bug report?

Are you sure you followed the instructions available at www.limewire.com about setting up a firewall?
