Firewall preventing connection

Im using Limewire 1.6.
I can connect when Im on a regular dialup but not at work when I'm behind the firewall.
I click connect and, in the connections tab, a message shows an attempt to connect and then quickly disappears - without connecting.
What should I set so that I may connect, and would I have to do anything special so I can download files ?
