Connection Glitch After installing limewire everything works just fine. But after I quit and try to run limewire again I get a "your machine doesnt appear to be connected to the internet" message. The weird thing about this is I cant do any searchs but a few random things are still downloading. So when ever I want to quit limewire I have to re-install it and its now getting pointless because I cant restart any of my incompleted downloads. Yes I have already deleted my LimeWire preferences directory and that didnt fix anything. Any help or do I have to keep on deleting and reinstalling if I want to use limewire? |
1 Attachment(s) I think you may have over-reacted initially. People's connection quality varies. If it should go into the red (see image below) & only showing one red bar then you might not be able to dwnld. You need at least 3 green bars showing to do a search. Also, when you 1st open LW, it's best to let LW settle down for a few mins after the old incomplete files have loaded. If it still shows disconnected, go to LW's menu File & select Connect. Also depending on your internet connection type, check your prefs/options. Go to LW's menu Tools-Options & Connections & tick the Connect on Startup option. |
It isnt a matter of connections quality. Like I said before when I first run limewire everything works just fine. Interent connection is cable modem (1.7 megabits per second Storage 211.2 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 4.8 seconds) Every time I launch LW and let it settle and selecting file Connect doesnt help either. Deleting my whole lime wire directory only kills my incomplete downloads but doesnt fix the problem. It seem that every time I want to connect I have to delete lw re-install then things work just fine again untill I quit. I have reinstalled six times now still no dice. |
It's natural for a high % of incomplete files not to continue if they can't find enough resources. Check your fine tuning of LW, see these threads for ideas: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1 http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27036 http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27285 http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27754 It's a little bit of reading but may hold some important points you've missed. Personally I find the more files I share the better & faster connnections I get. |

Again its not a matter of connections quality but its looks like I didnt post enough info for you to help me out. OS - Windows XP pro limewire - v4.0.8 Firewall - none connection speeds: 1.7 megabits per second Storage 211.2 kilobytes per second 1MB file download 4.8 seconds problem: Unable to connect cannot do any searchs/make uploads and thus cannot start any downloads if I cant search. Failed Solutions: So far ive tried to delete my whole limewire preferences directory but it didnt fix the problem. Working Solutions: After running limewire for the first time and then quiting; the only way to use it again is to delete/reinstall limewire. Thanks for the help so far Lord of the Rings but I hope this info helps out alittle anymore feedback would be appreciated. |
Any feedback? Anyone? Ive been looking through the forums and I see im not the only person with this problem. Anything that can fix this would be very helpful. If no one has a clue.... just wondering for all you beta users out there; is beta not as glitchy like this compared to the normal? |
