![]() That's a bit of a vague description. How R we supposed to know? Have a look at http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...?s=&forumid=29 so you know what we need to know 1st. I hope you're not trying to run both at the same time! Kazaa will 'hog' the bandwidth otherwise!!! |

![]() No no, I'm not running both at once. Sorry for being kinda vague, I'll try to explain better. I had Kazaa and it has always worked okay for me, it'll connect, I'll be able to download, all that good stuff. However I was told LimeWire works better, so I decided to try and download it last night. Of course I shut off my Kazaa while I was doing all of this. But when I set LimeWire up and tried to run it, all I would get would be messages on the bottom saying "disconnected" or "connecting"...for about a 2 minute period before it'd go back to disconnected. I looked at the forums, and noticed some people saying it had to do with firewalls and this and that, yadda yadda yadda. I basically tried any of those tricks people are posting on the sticky posts at the top, but I'm getting nothing. Also, many of them said that they'd download Kazaa just to see if that'd work for them, and it wouldn't. So I decided to see if somehow the installation of LimeWire was screwing with my connection. I shut it down and launched Kazaa, and it was still connecting easily. So basically...I'm lost and I have no idea what's going on... |

![]() Trying to connect at schools is an issue for many people b/c schools often block p2p use, else they'll at least have a firewall. When LW is open, click Tools-Options & go to Bug report & click for an example. In the window that appears scroll down to the part that says: "Received incoming this session". If it says 'true' then LW has no problem with firewalls. If 'False' then you have a firewall issue. Do you have XP's firewall on/off. There's instructions on LW's website about how to allow LW to get thru. Have you updated to XP SP2? http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Which port is Kazaa running thru? You could even try the same port. Last edited by Lord of the Rings; September 23rd, 2004 at 12:47 PM. |

![]() It's showing up as false like you said, I tried doing everything on the LimeWire website about firewalls and I tried running through the Kazaa ports (2298 and 80), but neither did anything. I never updated to XP SP2 though....is that supposed to help in anyway? |

![]() I dunno, I'm usually pretty self-sufficient at getting this stuff taken care of. But what has me so confused is the fact that a. other people in this school are using LimeWire with no problem. And b. if it was a firewall, why is Kazaa still working with any issues? I dunno, this is just starting to get on my nerves... |

![]() Might I suggest you try out the LW beta 4.1.5 b/c it's apparently solved 'some' other peoples probs. Ask around for these 'other' people at school & see how they managed to succeed. Swap them a coke for a copy of their LW prefs. Ask them how they achieved it. Even borrow yourself over to have a look at their set-up. There's a lot of students (who try to connect via their school) who ask why they can't connect on this forum, yet there's no simple straight forward answer. Not all schools are set up exactly the same way. Some specifically block some don't. If you can possibly have the patience, then hopefully this can be sorted out. There's other issues in regards to getting thru schools' ports if their not all blocked. It would be 'mighty great' if u could find out how these other people connected using LW & post back to us so we can also help others if it applies to them.
