Hi bob mitchell,
You need to give some info on your set up:

OS (ie Windows XP etc)
What LimeWire & Java versions you use
Connection type (dial-up, cable etc)
Where you're connecting from (home, work etc)
Any firewalls you're using
Modem/router brand & model numbers

Did LimeWire work ok before you had work done on your computer? What work was done on it?

Have you had a look through the other stickies in this section? It's worth a look...might find some answers

limewire is 4.9.37

i connect with broadband, from home

i've got windows firewall and zonealarm - i went into the windows firewall

unfortunately i dont know what a modem router is or how to find that out

i looked in my java plug-in icon, dunno if thats what you need, it says standard edition 1.3.1_04, default virtual machine version 1.3.1_04-b02, plug in 1.3.1_04

The blue line means you have sp2. Are you running the Zonealarm firewall and XP firewall together? What happens if you turn off your Win firewall??

Your modem/router is just the piece of hardware that lets you connect to the net. Have a look at all your hardware & see if you can find those brand & model numbers, that info might be needed for someone to help you with your prob

Your modem could be a separate piece of hardware that plugs into your comp
Have a look at all the stuff you have.

Has LimeWire worked ok in the past?

Do this test & see if it works:

In LimeWire, go to tools > options > advanced > firewall configuration. Do you have 'use UPnP' ticked? If not, tick it then click on 'apply'. Now see what happens.

Do the test in my last post, what does it say?
