Ursala U seem like you know whats up with these connection issues so i have a question for u... I have Windows XP Home Office version and i am having terrible inconsistencies with connecting to Limewire. Each time i go to my security center and disable my Norton firewall as well as my windows firewall inorder to connect. Sometimes it works and i get an awesome supercharged signal and other times it doesnt work at all. Got any idea what my problem is? I'm kind of knew with computers so try to be as basic as possible with your explanation: Thanks a million and if you feel you could explain this better to me via telephone, I will gladly call you. Thanks uninformed |

Ursula hasn't been around for some time ... too busy elsewhere. Might I suggest that instead of going without a firewall, that you disable XP firewall & configure Norton instead. For xp, go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box. For Norton, see *Configuring Norton Internet Security BTW did you apply the Event ID 4226 Patcher (4226 fix) from lvllord? Quote: "the before 10 half-open connections are being increased to 50 (can be changed during runtime and with the parameter /L) and the CRC is been corrected." BTW after you open LW, let it settle before using. And probably advisable not to use the Resume button on all incomplete files. This can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. May queue your files for much much longer. This will also stress LW, your comp. & internet connection. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time.

Lord of the rings, Thanks kindly for your timely and courtious response. Yes, Windows firewall is off/unchecked and Norton is on. I have to go to the Norton firewall page and disable it for 1 2 3 4 hours etc inorder to get a signal. I dont mind doing this but even then, its hit or miss. Its like it comes on whenever it wants to. Its 50/50 whether or not I can play music. Any other suggestions? Thanks BP |

LOTR I have already advised uninformed to configure his Norton firewall to allow LW access to and from the internet and, because he is new to computers, read through his Norton manual. The extra advice that you have given him will surely help but, I guess, he wants someone to give him step by step help in configuring his firewall. However, "step by step help" is available in Symantec's knowledgebase on their website. UK Bob |

UK Bob I trust all that you have advised me on its just that because of my inexperience, i dont know what I have and what I dont have. My Norton firewall is the one I manually disable each time from the control Panel so I know its configured properly. The Windows firewall box is unchecked and turned off permanently so whatever other advice you have....please share. I'm a quick learner BP |

Uninformed I too use Norton Firewall 2005, as well as Norton AntiVirus 2005, in order to get the best out of these products you will have to learn a little bit about them, that is why I suggested reading your Norton manual. Of the two, the firewall is the most difficult to get to grips with but once you have it configured correctly you, like I, can use LW with the firewall on, you will find that LW (and Java) will work the way you expect, i.e. as if the firewall is switched off. Anyway, the following will help you to set up firewall rules for all your internet enabled applications: Scanning for Internet-enabled programs in Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...&osv_lvl=&seg= UK Bob |
